About the Role:

This is a newly created leadership role for a finance professional who thrives in a fast-moving, evolving environment.ย 

Asย Assistantย Controller, you will own the day-to-day operational finance functions, providing leadership across Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Corporate Accounting.ย 

You will work closely with the Controller to ensureย accurate, consistent financial operations while supporting the broaderย financeย function as the business grows.ย 

What You'll Do:

  • Provide direct leadership and oversight of Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable supervisorsย 
  • Lead the month-end close process, in partnership with the Controller, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial statementsย 
  • Coordinate close timelines and deliverables across all accounting functionsย 
  • Review journal entries, reconciliations, and period-end reportingย 
  • Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets and debtย 
  • Maintain the integrity of the accounting system, including oversight and governance of the chart of accountsย 
  • Oversee and review GST, HST, and PST filings prepared by the Corporate Accounting teamย 
  • Act as a subject matter expert in provincial tax and regulatory requirements, and research and interpret changes acrossย jurisdictionsย 
  • Lead all First Nations partnership invoicing and commission calculationsย 
  • Support and coordinate external year-end processes and act as a key internal contact for auditors and advisorsย 
  • Oversee CRA correspondence and compliance activities, escalating complex or unusual matters asย requiredย 
  • Review vendor credit applications to ensure alignment with corporate policyย 
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Controllerย 
  • Support audit readiness and working paper preparationย 
  • Partner with operations teams to resolve transactional issuesย 
  • Identifyย and implement opportunities to better leverage financial systems, automation, and reporting toolsย 
  • Champion process improvements across the finance functionย 
  • Identifyย and escalate risks, discrepancies, and control gaps to the Controllerย 

What You Bring:

Requiredย 

    • CPA designation (or actively pursuing with strong practical experience), is considered a strong assetย 
    • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership capacityย 
    • Proven ownership of full-cycle accounting, including month-end close and transactional oversightย 
    • Strong experience managing and developing teams across AP, AR, Payroll and Corporate Accounting functionsย 
    • Demonstrated ability to build, improve, and enforce accounting processes and internal controlsย 
    • Experienceย operatingย in a fast-paced and evolving environmentย 
    • Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and accountabilityย 

Preferredย 

    • Experience in oil & gas or heavy civil construction would be considered an assetย 
    • Experience with job costing accountingย 
    • Experience supporting audit readiness or external auditsย 
    • Experience working with Explorer Contract Manager (Eclipse) or similar ERP systemsย
