Job description

Charlesglen Toyota – Alberta's Celebration Destination, family-owned and operated, and one of the largest dealerships in Calgary, is looking for an experienced automotive accounting professional to join our team in a full-time Controller position. This is a key leadership role for someone who can take ownership of the accounting function, lead and develop an established team, and partner effectively with the CFO and dealership leadership.

SCHEDULE:

  • Our dealership is open from Monday to Saturday, and the schedule for the position:
  • Mon-Fri | 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

WHAT YOU GET TO DO!

  • Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing all day-to-day accounting operations for the G3 Auto Group dealerships. Additionally, you will manage accounting staff and assist department heads with day-to-day operations involving the PBS dealer management system. The successful candidate will be comfortable providing clear direction to the accounting team, proactively identifying issues, and bringing solutions forward to the CFO.
  • Prepares a complete financial statement monthly according to dealership guidelines and within each manufacturer's format and time frame. Ensures that all manufacturer accounts, including warranty claims, rebates, interest protection and co-op advertising are current and accurate.
  • Reviews the general ledger and scheduled accounts. Notes any unusual entries and investigates.
  • Reviews the reconciliation of general ledger accounts with outside sources to ensure proper bank reconciliation, reserve accounts, factory payable and floor plan payable.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms, payroll taxes and deposits, income taxes, retirement plan records etc.
  • Administers a loss review program and maintains loss reserves for contingent liabilities and trade receivables.
  • Prepares and processes all STD and LTD claims.
  • Coordinates annual audit (or review) and physical inventory.
  • Ensures that all office personnel are using proper accounting procedures and maintaining accurate records and analyses and supervises the preparation of all information for the CRA in order to minimize audit or review costs.
  • Continually strives to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the dealership.
  • Provide DMS system support for Group
  • Oversee Payroll processing.
  • Continually mentors, coaches, and provides clear direction to members of the accounting team to ensure job knowledge, accounting processes are adhered to, KPI’s are met, and team members are held accountable for their responsibilities.
  • Continually look for ways and discuss ways in which we can find efficient ways for all 3 dealerships to operate more efficiently.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING TO US:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation an asset
  • Previous automotive dealership accounting experience required; multi-dealership or dealer group experience strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including demonstrated experience leading and developing an accounting team.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in dealership management systems (e.g., PBS, Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK) and accounting software
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to set expectations, manage workflow and deadlines, coach team members, and address performance issues when required.
