Job description

About Tersus Solutions
Founded in 2009, Tersus Solutions is a Denver-based company committed to revolutionizing textile care and circularity with its patented liquid CO₂ technology-the most advanced and environmentally friendly cleaning available.
As the backbone of recommerce™, Tersus partners with leading outdoor, athletic, luxury, and footwear brands to provide full-suite textile reclamation, repair, upcycling, recycling, and logistics solutions. Tersus also sets a new standard in PPE care, utilizing its CO₂ cleaning process to offer unmatched care for firefighter gear, far exceeding the carcinogen removal rate of traditional cleaning methods for safer, more comfortable gear. Additionally, Tersus reclaims and recycles down from apparel, bedding, and gear, extending the life of valuable materials and reducing waste.
The Role
Reporting to our engineering leadership and working cross-functionally with operations and teams across the business, you'll play a key role in advancing our cleantech. You'll help evolve our existing machines while also designing new equipment and processes that power textile circularity.
This is a dynamic, hands-on role that blends design and real-world application. This role is a mix of time in front of a computer and getting your hands dirty on the floor. As a senior voice on the team, you'll naturally help shape how we work, share knowledge with those around you, and influence how engineering decisions get made. From day one, you'll take ownership of meaningful technical challenges, with the opportunity to grow alongside a rapidly scaling team and company.
We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, takes pride in thoughtful, high-quality design, and thrives in environments where not everything is fully defined yet. If you're energized by stepping into the ambiguous, building systems and creating structures, you'll thrive here.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems and components for industrial equipment, including pressurized and fluid-handling systems
  • Own and maintain machine drawings, design documentation, and bills of materials (BOM)
  • Develop and improve assemblies using Autodesk Inventor or Fusion
  • Translate P&ID diagrams into real-world mechanical systems
  • Conduct design risk analysis (DFMEA) to identify and mitigate failure modes early in the design process

Hands-On Engineering
  • Assemble, modify, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Perform maintenance and upgrades on machines as needed
  • Run validation testing and document results
  • Support lab testing and experimentation

Testing & Lab Work
  • Conduct testing programs and record detailed technical notes
  • Maintain experimental logs and test data
  • Assist in textile and materials testing environments
  • Set up instrumentation and perform equipment calibrations

Manufacturing Development
  • Help establish internal manufacturing processes
  • Develop SOPs and engineering documentation
  • Support facility setup and production scaling
  • Work with external vendors and contract manufacturers

Operations & Systems
  • Assist in developing manufacturing KPIs and performance tracking
  • Help automate or simplify operational tracking systems
  • Coordinate with internal teams - including operations - to keep engineering projects on track
  • Ensure designs and processes comply with applicable OSHA and industrial safety standards
  • Comfortable and proficient using AI tools for projects and day-to-day tasks

Qualifications
Required
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5-10+ years of hands-on product design experience
  • Strong mechanical design experience with Autodesk Inventor or Fusion
  • Comfortable working directly with machines and equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems, including pressurized or fluid-handling systems
  • Ability to read or willingness to learn P&ID diagrams
  • Experience with DFMEA or similar design risk analysis methods
  • Experience documenting testing and engineering results, including BOM management
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and industrial safety compliance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace
  • Comfortable and proficient using AI tools for projects and day-to-day work
  • Travel 10-15%

Ideal if You Have Some Combination of
  • Experience with PLC programming or Structured Text
  • Familiarity with Sequential Function Chart (SFC)
  • Background in automation, industrial equipment, or process systems
  • Experience working in a lab or prototype environment
  • Experience scaling products from prototype to manufacturing
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary: $130,000 - $150,000 (commensurate with experience)
  • Work with environmentally sustainable technology
  • 401(k)
  • Dental insurance
  • Flexible spending account
  • Health insurance
