Job description

Solar Apprentice
Pay Range (Hourly): $20 - $25/hr
Reports To: Solar Mechanical Lead / Solar AC Lead / Solar Foreman
Travel: Up to 75% (company-paid lodging, transportation, and per diem)

Position Summary
The Solar Apprentice assists with the installation of commercial and industrial solar projects, including mechanical assembly, module installation, basic wiring, and material handling. This entry-level position focuses on developing skills in solar construction, learning installation standards, and supporting Leads and Foremen to ensure high-quality, safe project execution.
This role is a pathway into Solar Mechanical Technician, Solar AC Technician, or Crew Lead roles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with racking assembly, module placement, wire management, grounding, and general installation tasks.
  • Handle materials, stage equipment, and support layout/marking as directed.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely under supervision.
  • Perform basic torqueing and mechanical QC tasks once trained.
  • Follow all safety practices and PPE requirements; participate in toolbox talks and daily safety briefings.
  • Maintain jobsite cleanliness, organization, and material staging.
  • Support technicians and leads with setup, lifting, array cleanup, and task preparation.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights (rooftops, ladders, lifts, or scaffolding).
  • Willingness to learn solar installation practices (mechanical and/or electrical).
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and positive attitude.
  • Comfort working outdoors in variable weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
  • Prior construction experience (any trade)
  • Basic tool familiarity
  • Enrolled in a state registered apprenticeship program
