Job description

Under the direction of the California State Controller, and with the oversight of the Chief of Staff and/or the Special Advisor, this position will act as a member of the Senior Executive team and directly support the needs of the Controller's personal office by serving in a confidential capacity in advising and acting as an assistant to the Controller and the Special Advisor. The incumbent, in partnership with the Special Advisor, will assist in strategic decision making, policy development and modification, and evaluating and providing recommendations related to the mission, goals, and objectives of the Controller. This position may be called upon to participate with other executive leaders, business partners, and relevant boards and commissions in support of critical assignments or initiatives related to the needs of the Controller and the interface with constituents, community and business leaders, and elected officials and other dignitaries.

This position is located at The Emerald Tower on Capitol Mall, steps from Tower Bridge and is walking distance to the State Capitol. The building offers affordable monthly parking, employee gym access, an amenities center, and a beautiful mid-tower garden terrace. In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees' monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
This position is eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.
