Job description

Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP is a nationally recognized Am Law 200 law firm with over 500 attorneys servicing clients in 40 offices and 22 states seeking an experienced legal assistant to join our Houston office. The Pricing Manager is a member of the Revenue team within the Firm's Revenue Department and is responsible for leading the firm's pricing and matter budgeting function. This role partners with attorneys, Firm leadership, Revenue Operations, Billing, E-Billing, and Innovation teams to develop matter budgets, ensure compliance with client guidelines, improve matter budget performance, and drive operational efficiencies.
The Pricing Manager oversees the daily operations of the pricing function, including the development of departmental workflows, establishment of performance metrics, mentoring and development of Pricing Analysts, and implementation of process improvements. This role is responsible for leveraging technology and AI-driven solutions to enhance matter budgeting processes, improve turnaround times, and reduce administrative burden.
The Pricing Manager reports directly to the Director of Revenue and serves as the primary subject matter expert for matter budgeting, matter budget compliance, pricing analytics, and matter budgeting-related operational initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and professional development for Senior Pricing Analysts and Pricing Analysts.
  • Oversee workload distribution and prioritization to ensure timely completion of matter budgeting requests and projects.
  • Establish individual and departmental performance goals and conduct ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex matter budgeting, pricing, and client guideline issues.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve pricing department workflows, procedures, and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline matter budgeting processes and improve service delivery to attorneys and clients.
  • Lead departmental initiatives focused on operational excellence, scalability, and efficiency.
  • Partner with the Firm's Innovation team to identify, evaluate, and implement AI and automation solutions that improve matter budgeting accuracy, turnaround times, and overall departmental efficiency.
  • Assist in developing technology-driven tools, templates, and processes to support the matter budgeting lifecycle.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to improve the firm's pricing and matter budgeting capabilities.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key departmental performance indicators, including matter budget turnaround times, submission rates, rejection rates, attorney responsiveness, and matter budget compliance metrics.
  • Analyze trends and provide actionable recommendations to Revenue leadership.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide visibility into departmental performance and matter budget outcomes.
  • Monitor attorney and client adherence to matter budget requirements and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner closely with Billing and E-Billing teams to reduce matter budget-related invoice rejections and improve overall realization.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Operations, Client Accounts, Appeals, and other administrative teams to resolve matter budgeting and billing challenges.
  • Work proactively with attorneys and legal assistants to ensure timely matter budget preparation, submission, and approval.
  • Other duties as required

Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction preferred but not required.
  • Five or more years of experience in legal pricing, legal operations, finance, budgeting, revenue management, or related field.
  • Previous experience leading projects, processes, or team members preferred.
  • Experience working with legal budgeting, client guidelines, and e-billing systems strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive process improvement.
  • Experience leveraging technology, automation, reporting tools, and AI solutions to improve operational performance preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to analyze pricing, profitability, and matter budget performance.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, attention to detail, initiative, and accountability.
