Project Manager Heavy Civil / Infrastructure Construction
Location: Ohio (multiple regions)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: Competitive salary + bonus + full benefits
Position Overview
We are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to support a growing heavy civil construction contractor specializing in heavy highway, bridges, dams, water/wastewater infrastructure, and large-scale site preparation projects. This role is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and closeout of complex civil construction projects while ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in DOT, municipal, and civil infrastructure work, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Leadership
  • Plan, organize, and manage all phases of assigned civil construction projects
  • Lead project teams including superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners, inspectors, and project partners
Schedule & Cost Control
  • Develop and maintain project schedules in coordination with field leadership
  • Monitor budgets, job cost reports, change orders, and forecasting
  • Identify risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies
Safety & Quality
  • Champion jobsite safety and ensure compliance with company, OSHA, and DOT standards
  • Work closely with safety leadership to maintain strong safety performance
  • Ensure work meets contract documents, plans, specifications, and quality standards
Contract & Documentation Management
  • Review contract documents, subcontracts, and scopes of work
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with estimating and preconstruction teams as needed

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager in heavy civil construction
  • Proven experience with one or more of the following:
    • Heavy highway and roadway construction
    • Bridges and structures
    • Dams, waterways, or flood control projects
    • Water / wastewater or underground utilities
    • Large-scale site development and earthwork
  • Strong understanding of DOT and municipal projects
  • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and contracts
  • Proficient with project management software and Microsoft Office tools

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Experience working on ODOT or other state DOT projects
  • Background managing self-perform crews and subcontractors
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
