James & Whitney Co.

Chelsea, ME

Full-time

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

Are you ready to take the next step in your construction management career? James & Whitney Co. is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager (APM) to join our fast-growing team.

This is a field-based, on-site position—not an office job. As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll spend your days traveling between active job sites, working alongside Project Managers, subcontractors, and customers to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. If you're looking for a desk job or a role primarily based in an office, this position is not the right fit.

This is a hands-on opportunity to learn directly from experienced Project Managers while making a measurable impact on every project. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy problem-solving, and like being out in the field rather than behind a computer, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for crews, customers, and deliveries.
  • Travel between active job sites throughout the day to support project operations.
  • Ensure materials are on-site and projects remain on schedule.
  • Monitor installation quality and maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
  • Oversee subcontracted crews to ensure work is completed safely, professionally, and according to project specifications.
  • Keep the Project Manager informed with real-time updates on project progress, material needs, customer concerns, and change orders.
  • Capture project documentation through photos, videos, and detailed notes.
  • Verify each project is weather-tight, secure, and cleaned up at the end of each workday and upon completion.
  • Assist with material deliveries, waste disposal, equipment coordination, and returns to keep projects running efficiently.
  • Represent James & Whitney Co. professionally with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable driving throughout the workday between multiple job sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 90 pounds and perform physical work in outdoor environments.
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and light rain when appropriate.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • A positive attitude and a "whatever it takes" mindset.
Why James & Whitney Co.?

At James & Whitney Co., we're not just building projects—we're building a culture of excellence, teamwork, and growth.

As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll receive hands-on training from experienced leaders, develop valuable construction management skills, and build a clear path toward becoming a Project Manager. We invest in our people and reward those who take ownership, communicate well, and consistently deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Position Details
  • Full-time, field-based position
  • Daily travel between active job sites
  • Company vehicle provided
  • Training and advancement opportunities
  • Primarily outdoor work with minimal office time
Before You Apply

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being out in the field, solving problems, interacting with crews and customers, and seeing projects come together firsthand.

If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, lead from the field, and grow with one of the fastest-moving exterior remodeling companies in the region, we'd love to hear from you!
