Job description


Job Title: Project Engineer
Department: Engineering / Preconstruction
Reports To: Project Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hourly Rate: Up to $40 per hour


Position Overview:
The Project Engineer plays a critical role in transforming engineering data into actionable construction documentation. This position is responsible for creating and managing CAD files, performing quantity take-offs, and supporting field layout efforts using GPS. The role combines office-based design and data preparation with occasional field verification, survey, and layout responsibilities.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage construction CAD files; generate DXF, surface, and point files for use in GPS-enabled equipment.
  • Convert engineering drawings into site-ready formats; prepare surface models, cut/fill calculations, and as-built documentation.
  • Perform CAD reviews to ensure survey control and data accuracy; communicate with design consultants to clarify discrepancies.
  • Support field layout and survey efforts, including GPS localization, layout calculations, and verification of design data.
  • Assist estimating and project management teams with earthwork volumes, take-offs, and layout coordination.
  • Manage ongoing updates and version control of construction CAD files across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements at all times.

Additional Duties (Non-Essential):

  • Participate in ongoing training, certification, and mentorship programs.
  • Contribute to the onboarding and development of team members.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by project or operations leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in civil CAD drafting, field layout, or estimating.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience preferred, Bid2@in, Agtek Earthworks a plus 
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR preferred
