Job description

We are seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join our clients growing team in Lexington, Kentucky. This position plays a critical role in the financial management of large-scale construction projects, partnering closely with project managers and operational leaders to ensure accurate reporting, billing, cost tracking, and financial performance.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and experience managing project finances in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting functions for one or more large projects, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance.
  • Review subcontract documentation, change orders, and related project agreements for completeness and adherence to contractual requirements.
  • Oversee the processing of subcontractor and vendor invoices, ensuring costs are recorded accurately and allocated to the appropriate project phases and cost codes.
  • Monitor project costs and maintain accurate job cost reporting to support project management decision-making.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review monthly project financial reports, including profit and loss statements and cost forecasts.
  • Assist project teams with cost adjustments, reallocations, and other accounting-related transactions.
  • Prepare and review owner billings, ensuring timely and accurate submission in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Track accounts receivable activity and collaborate with project teams to monitor collections and project cash flow.
  • Review lien waivers and other supporting documentation required for project payments.
  • Identify financial risks, resolve discrepancies, and provide recommendations to improve project financial performance.
  • Work independently while supporting multiple projects and stakeholders in a deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum 4+ years of project accounting experience, preferably within the construction, manufacturing, engineering, or related industries
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project financial reporting, billing, and accounts receivable processes
  • Experience reviewing subcontractor and vendor documentation
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/reporting systems
