Job Overview

Fairview is hiring a Security Officer at our University of MN Medical Center location in Minneapolis, MN. In this role, you’ll be the calm, confident presence that helps patients, visitors, and staff feel safe from the moment they walk through the doors. You’ll patrol the hospital, respond to calls for service, assist with difficult or high-risk situations, and proactively prevent theft or vandalism—while delivering strong customer service every step of the way.

This is a 1.0 FTE evening-shift position (80 hours per pay period) with an every Saturday rotation. Starting pay is $25.88 per hour and increases with experience, plus shift differentials and a comprehensive benefits package that includes tuition reimbursement, a 403(b), and annual merit increases. Schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 3p-1130p

Responsibilities

  • Patrols designated areas according to established procedures and documents patrols in daily shift reports.
  • Documents daily activities in report writing system.
  • Provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff.
  • Responds to calls for services.
  • Assists in the control (often physical) of potentially violent individuals which requires strength, stamina, flexibility and critical thinking.
  • Works with potentially unpredictable individuals requiring that teamwork and communication with other security officers.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

Required Qualifications

Experience/Education

One of the following is required for hire:

  • 2 years of security, military, or law enforcement experience
  • Associate's degree in a related field and 1 year of security, military or law enforcement experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Licensure

  • Drivers License Valid Class D Driver’s License and DMV record which meets Fairview Insurability requirements for assignments that require the operation of a motor vehicle

Organizational Expectations

  • Pass pre-assignment training within probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years Hospital Security Experience
  • Certified Peace Officer (POST)
  • Emergency Med Tech Basic (EMT-B)
