Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

To maintain production equipment at a level that will provide 85% or better availability for assigned area.  Technicians will assist in other areas or other technicians as available or as deemed so by maintenance or production supervision.  To be a resource to educate production about best practices of maintaining and operations of production machines.   This position interacts with all Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Planning, and Production associates. 

This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and requires:

- 100% floor coverage for the designated areas.

- Optimize running lines and prevention of breakdowns through good maintenance practice and policies

- Leverage experience to proactively resolve quality issues due to equipment/raw materials.

- Teaching/coaching interactions with B Mechanics to broaden their skill base

This position interacts with all Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Planning, and Production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  1. Observe the Company Safety and OSHA procedures in all work activities.
  2. General knowledge of repairing and maintaining production equipment
  3. Safely use lifting devices and/or fixtures commonly used in an industrial facility.
  4. Communicate with production associates as required on setups, changeovers, troubleshooting, repair, and general learning of all equipment in the facility.
  5. Ability to select and use the proper tools for the maintenance and repair tasks.
  6. General understanding of equipment parts to determine their continued usefulness
  7. Post training period should be able to carry out adjustments, setups, and mechanical part changeovers on production machines.
  8. Understand and familiar with lubricants and general lubrication practices
  9. General ability in properly installing and disassemble bearings, gears, shafts, and belt type mechanical systems
  10. Collaborate with operators and other peers to gain understanding in machine adjustments and machine center line settings to assist production operators in overcoming machine problems.
  11. Record accurately all maintenance line issues and activities during each shift.
  12. Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal skills to effectively communicate with other associates and management from all departments.
  13. Keep the Supervisor always informed when breakdown occurrence time exceeds ½ hr. for a machine or line problem.
  14. Support line production supervision and their production scheduling requirements and be aware of the line priorities at the start of every shift.
  15. Use current CMMS software to initiate, look up, and close out work orders.
  16. Undertake additional training as the Company may deem necessary.
  17. All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent experience

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Less than two years’ experience as a maintenance technician in a similar industry or a similar mechanical field or background
  • General understanding of OSHA and what it is.
  • Basic Mathematics
  • Able to use basic workshop tools, grinding, and drilling equipment in a safe manner to the Companies’ Safe Operating Procedures
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Standards of Measure and some knowledge of the equivalent Metric Units of Measure
  • General ability to understand technical manuals
  • Use of Windows-based PC programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Use of hand tools for the maintenance and repair of mechanical assemblies
  • Preferably holds vocational school / college training in mechanical or electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Some operational experience of automated machinery

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic mechanical systems knowledge
  • Problem solving ability
  • Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Handles conflicts in professional manner
  • Ability to work overtime including weekends and be available for on-call as required

Work around moving equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment.  May work with electricity and chemicals. Ability to work assigned shifts. Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting a minimum of 40 lbs., and frequent stair navigation.
