Job description

Role Summary

Terrain is seeking a strategic and self-motivated Associate Print Designer who exhibits a natural curiosity and a strong ability to innovate. This role supports the creation of original artwork for both textiles and hard goods while taking ownership of seasonal development projects. The ideal candidate possesses a history of successfully partnering with teams to design product that speaks authentically to the brand's customer, with a proven ability to analyze product sales to inform design direction. This position includes the opportunity to mentor and supervise an Assistant Designer.

Experience and openness to creative exploration using AI platforms is strongly preferred.

This is a hybrid position requiring the ability to work from the Philadelphia office weekly.

Role Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate advanced creative ability to design prints of varying styles, sensibilities, and layouts. Create original artwork from drawing to hand painting and digital rendering with exceptional color sense.
  • Take full ownership of seasonal development projects, driving them from inception to completion.
  • Ability to create print repeats meeting style needs and oversee the technical execution of the junior team.
  • Skillfully color separate artworks, reducing colors to meet screen limitations while preserving intended aesthetic.
  • Effectively manage time and project pipelines, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Review and analyze product sales data to ensure seasonal assortments meet commercial goals and customer preferences.
  • Collaborate effectively, fostering positive relationships with managers, team members, and cross-functional partners in buying and concept.
  • Assist concept team with print and pattern projects on an as needed basis.
  • Present seasonal print directions to buyers and leadership during design meetings.
  • Supervise and mentor an Assistant Designer, providing feedback and guidance on artwork.
  • Maintain an understanding of the department's calendar, including key events, milestones, and deadlines.
  • Accurately manage artwork packages to team standards, resulting in successful execution of prints in production.
  • Proactively prepare for print representation in samples, panels, printouts, and cads for product reviews and high-level presentations.

Role Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of professional design experience in a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, conveying ideas, and feedback with clarity. Confident in presenting to cross-functional partners.
  • Open to receiving constructive feedback and implementing changes in designs, while also providing constructive feedback to junior staff.
  • Self-motivated, possessing the ability to envision a concept and drive it forward from inception to completion.
  • Resilience to adapt in the face of obstacles or setbacks, seeing them as opportunities for growth.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, showcasing the ability to meticulously review and refine designs with precision.
  • Bachelor's degree in fine art, Textile Design, Print Design or related experience necessary.
  • Experience with creating artwork for ceramics is a plus.
  • Strong creative and technical skills in Adobe programs, keeping up to date with new features.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Google suite.
  • Experience and openness to creative exploration using Al (Midjourney and Krea).
