Overview

The Project Engineer / Assistant PM position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s quickly growing Outsourced Technical Services(OTS) team in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Outsourced Technical Services (OTS) is an integral part of PM Group’s ability to support clients across the complete project life cycle. We have over 50 years’ industry experience, strong technical knowledge and integrated resources. Clients look to us to provide experienced technical professionals that complement their project teams. This position will support the Senior Project Managers in the delivery of highly complex CAPx projects, and will play a key role in the day-to-day management and coordination of construction activities, working closely with Senior Project Managers, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically capable, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where quality, safety, schedule, and attention to detail are critical.

Responsibilities
  • Project Management & Coordination

    • Assist Senior Project Managers with the overall planning, execution, and closeout of construction projects.
    • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and construction coordination.
    • Track project milestones, deliverables, action items, and critical path activities.
    • Participate in project meetings and distribute meeting minutes, action items, and follow-ups.
    • Coordinate between the owner, design team, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams.
    • Identify potential project risks and escalate issues to Senior Project Managers before they impact cost, schedule, quality, or safety.
    • Help develop and maintain project execution plans and project documentation.

    Construction Management

    • Monitor day-to-day construction activities to ensure work is progressing in accordance with the drawings, specifications, schedule, and project requirements.
    • Review contractor work plans, schedules, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other project documentation.
    • Assist with field coordination and resolution of construction issues.
    • Verify that installations are consistent with approved design documents and project standards.
    • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.
    • Work with contractors to identify conflicts and develop practical solutions.

    Schedule & Cost Control

    • Assist in maintaining and updating detailed project schedules.
    • Track contractor progress against milestones and identify schedule risks.
    • Review contractor payment applications and supporting documentation.
    • Assist with change management, cost tracking, forecasting, and budget reporting.
    • Evaluate potential changes and assist with developing cost and schedule impacts.
    • Maintain logs for RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, inspections, and other critical project controls.

    Quality, Safety & Compliance

    • Promote a strong culture of safety and quality throughout the project.
    • Monitor construction activities for compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.
    • Participate in quality inspections, punch walks, commissioning activities, and project turnover.
    • Assist with documentation required for a highly regulated R&D/life sciences environment.
    • Ensure project documentation is maintained accurately and in accordance with established procedures.

    Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

    • Serve as a key point of coordination between Senior Project Managers and project stakeholders.
    • Develop productive relationships with contractors, designers, vendors, and client representatives.
    • Communicate project status, issues, and required decisions clearly and professionally.
    • Support Senior Project Managers in preparing presentations, progress reports, executive updates, and other project communications.
    • Help drive accountability and timely resolution of project action items.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–7 years of construction/project management experience.
  • Experience working on complex commercial, industrial, life sciences, pharmaceutical, R&D, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, robotics, or high-tech facilities strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting projects from design through construction and commissioning.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing, scheduling, cost control, and project documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty system drawings.
  • Experience working with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction/project management platforms is a plus.

Pay Range Disclosure:
The pay range for this position is $135,000 – $176,000 annually. This range represents the base salary that PM Group reasonably expects to pay for this role at the time of posting.
