JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
COORDINATING PLANNER
CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION
CDA- Environmental/Planning Section
Number of Positions: 1
(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)
Starting Salary: GY10, $100,248.00/year

Under direction, functions as a project manager responsible for coordinating urban development and revitalization planning projects of a complex nature OR as a senior level, technical expert engaged in researching and managing specialized planning initiatives, and performs related duties as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Plans and manages the full scope of planning studies including the design, data collection and implementation of recommendations.
• Establishes and monitors work objectives and timelines of planning projects and oversees private consultants in the conduct of planning studies.
• Participates in and coordinates the collection and analysis of planning data.
• Summarizes and formats collected data and prepares reports for senior management's review.
• Coordinates minor planning activities and projects for airside, terminal, and/or land use planning elements of both MDW and ORD airports.
• Evaluates airport planning projects that affect airport operations assuring compliance with City of Chicago, Federal Aviation Administration, and other federal, state, and local standards and regulations.
• Apply airport planning principles to coordinate stakeholder engagement regarding airfield improvements, operational/capacity improvements, capital planning updates, and/or aviation facility development.
• Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and deliverables including illustrations, tables, and drawings to communicate complex technical ideas through a graphical and visual approach for a wide range of airport Stakeholders.
• Research and analyze trends and best practices related to airport planning.
• Demonstrate strong numeric analytical competence and strategic thinking capability.
• Coordinate documentation, justifications and other pertinent resources that support new airport development and projects.
• Develop and maintain an organized systematic and prioritized approach for potential project scopes for a Capital Improvement Programs.
• Conduct and guide various internal and external meetings.
• Draft submittal, letters, and reports as necessary related to planning projects, issues or concerns.
• Respond to inquiries from other departments, agencies, developers, tenants, interest groups, and the public regarding airport planning issues or related matters.
• Attend various hearings, public meetings, or events that support planning projects and current work.
• Perform other similar duties as directed by the Director of Planning or other Senior Management.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, or a directly related field, PLUS five (5) years of work experience in the development and management of major planning or research studies, of which two (2) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position
The candidate selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA)
