Job description

ABC Columbia (WOLO-TV) is seeking an experienced and strategic Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations across our News, Production, Engineering, and Broadcast IT departments at our Cushman Drive headquarters.

As a senior leader, you will play a critical role in managing technical operations, station logistics, and physical plant maintenance to support our news, broadcast, and digital platforms. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-demand, fast-paced environment and possesses deep technical expertise in modern television broadcasting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Department & Technical Leadership: Direct daily operations across Engineering, Production, and Broadcast IT to ensure seamless news delivery and broadcast performance.
  • Gear & Systems Operations: Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair critical studio and field equipmentโ€”including Sony news cameras, video servers, routers, IFB systems, wireless gear, and digital fiber networks.
  • Facility & Plant Management: Oversee interior and exterior maintenance and technical infrastructure for the physical station facilities.
  • Operational Readiness: Ensure cross-departmental deadline compliance and provide rapid-response troubleshooting for technical or operational issues as they arise.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 5โ€“7 years of experience in television news production management, broadcast engineering, or station IT.
  • Technical Skills: Proven hands-on familiarity with broadcast systems, news gathering gear, signal routing, server management, and field equipment repair.
  • Physical criteria/mobility: Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, ability to use hand tools, ladders and diagnostic equipment. Must be able to sit, stand, bend and reach for extended periods at a time.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including weekends, nights, holidays, and on-call for station emergencies.
  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcast Engineering, or a related field preferred.
