Job description

Operations Coordinator

Affordable Movers – Detroit, MI
Full-Time | In-Person
Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Pay: $26.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience

Affordable Movers is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and proactive Operations Coordinator to support our Detroit market.

This is an in-person, hands-on operations position responsible for helping manage the daily movement of our crews, maintaining communication with movers and team leads, monitoring active jobs, addressing operational issues, and ensuring team members are meeting company expectations.

This is not a traditional dispatcher position. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of daily operations, communicate confidently with field staff, solve problems quickly, and hold team members accountable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor daily mover and crew assignments
  • Maintain constant communication with movers, captains, and team leads
  • Monitor attendance, call-offs, late arrivals, and no-shows
  • Follow up with team members regarding attendance and performance concerns
  • Ensure crews are properly staffed for scheduled moves
  • Assist with finding replacement team members when staffing changes occur
  • Monitor active jobs throughout the day and identify delays or operational concerns
  • Respond to incoming calls from field staff and assist with real-time issues
  • Coordinate changes to crews, schedules, or job assignments when necessary
  • Monitor truck availability and communicate mechanical or equipment concerns
  • Ensure crews have the proper equipment and resources needed for each job
  • Document performance issues, incidents, attendance concerns, and policy violations
  • Work closely with HR to ensure team members assigned to jobs are compliant with company requirements
  • Monitor company systems for required documentation and employee activity
  • Communicate important operational concerns to HR and company leadership
  • Assist with the operational onboarding of newly hired movers
  • Monitor new hires during their first several shifts and communicate performance concerns
  • Assist with customer-related operational issues when necessary
  • Review upcoming schedules and identify potential staffing needs
  • Maintain accurate shift notes and communicate unfinished matters to other Operations Coordinators
  • Help maintain company expectations regarding professionalism, attendance, safety, and accountability
  • Complete daily operational reporting for leadership
  • Perform additional operational duties as assigned

What We're Looking For

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to confidently communicate expectations and hold team members accountable
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to handle multiple situations at the same time
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Comfortable using computers, scheduling systems, and communication platforms
  • Ability to remain professional when dealing with difficult or stressful situations
  • Previous experience in moving, logistics, transportation, dispatch, operations, warehouse operations, or field service is strongly preferred
  • Previous leadership or team coordination experience is a plus

What Success Looks Like

A successful Operations Coordinator keeps the operation moving. You should know where crews are, identify problems before they become larger issues, communicate clearly with the field, document concerns, and make sure leadership is aware of anything requiring additional action.

This position requires someone who is comfortable taking ownership, not simply waiting to be told what to do.

Schedule

This is a full-time, in-person position based in the Detroit market.

Standard hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Weekend availability may be required based on the assigned Operations Coordinator schedule.

Compensation

$26.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on relevant operations, logistics, moving, leadership, and field coordination experience.

Affordable Movers is looking for individuals who want to play a major role in the daily performance and continued growth of our Detroit operation.
