Job Summary
Sun Tribe EPC ("Sun Tribe") is Virginia's premier utility-scale solar design and build firm, specializing in small to medium size utility scale ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities. Our construction efforts are focused throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia, Maryland, and neighboring states. At Sun Tribe, we build with purpose-prioritizing safety, quality, and environmental stewardship in every project we deliver.
The Director of Project Management is responsible for supporting the leadership and development of the Project Management team while helping ensure successful execution of Sun Tribe EPC projects. This role provides leadership, coaching, mentorship, and oversight to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers, helping teams navigate project challenges, manage risk, maintain customer relationships, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
The Director of Project Management maintains visibility across the project portfolio, supports resource planning and project staffing decisions, and serves as a senior escalation resource for complex projects, customers, contractual, and execution-related issues. This role works closely with Executive Leadership, Preconstruction, Construction Management, Engineering, Safety and Environmental Compliance, Finance, and key customer stakeholders to support successful project outcomes and continuous improvement across the project lifecycle.
This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Project Management Office and provides leadership support and assistance to the Project Management organization, including Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Assistant Project Managers. In addition to providing leadership support to the Project Management team, this role may directly support execution of larger, more complex, or strategically important projects within the portfolio.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Support the leadership, development, and mentoring of the Project Management team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth
  • Establish and maintain standardized project management processes, tools, workflows, and performance expectations to support consistent project delivery across the organization
  • Provide oversight of project execution across the EPC portfolio, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, schedule, budget, and contractual objectives
  • Monitor project performance, identify portfolio-level risks, and support project teams in resolving complex issues, escalations, and execution challenges
  • Support project staffing and resource allocation decisions across the project portfolio to align business priorities, workloads, and project needs
  • Monitor and report on project and organizational performance metrics while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the Project Management organization
  • Partner with Executive Leadership and cross-functional teams to drive organizational alignment, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, partners, and key stakeholders while supporting customer engagement and issue resolution efforts
  • Provide oversight of project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, Estimate at Completion (EAC) reporting, and portfolio risk management
  • Support negotiation, administration, and interpretation of EPC contracts, major project agreements, and commercial terms
  • Promote consistent project delivery standards, accountability, and customer-focused execution across the Project Management organization
  • Directly support execution of larger, more complex, or high-priority projects while serving as a senior leader and escalation resource across the project portfolio

Basic Qualifications Required
  • Education required: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or related technical field preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of project management experience in EPC, construction, energy, infrastructure, or related industries required
  • Minimum five (5) years of leadership, supervisory, team development, or project leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex utility-scale solar, EPC, energy, infrastructure, or related construction projects required
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple concurrent projects, project teams, or project portfolios required
  • Demonstrated experience managing project financial performance, forecasting, budgeting, contract administration, and commercial risk required
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and communicate effectively with executive leadership, customers, and key stakeholders
  • Current, valid driver's license and eligibility for corporate vehicle insurance coverage

Skills & Experience Preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Proficiency in Procore, MS Project, and related construction management software
  • Experience leading, mentoring, and developing Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and stakeholder groups
  • Experience leading project delivery teams across multiple concurrent projects and complex stakeholder environments
  • Strong understanding of EPC contract administration, commercial risk management, forecasting, project controls, and customer relationship management
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day project execution needs

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Some evening and/or weekend work may be required

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site hazards
  • Wearing of standard personal protective equipment while on project sites
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation for this position will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
