Essential Function
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the library by assisting with the processing and maintenance of library materials, acquisitions activities, interlibrary loan services, electronic resource management, and library web content. Working collaboratively with library faculty and staff, this position utilizes library specific products to help ensure that library resources, services, and online information are accurate, accessible, and effectively maintained. This is not a front-facing, customer service position and requires the ability to work independently without constant supervision.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
2. Associates degree or Library Technical Assistant (LTA) degree/certificate preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Experience working in a library, educational, or office environment.
2. Familiarity with library systems and technologies, including cataloging, resource sharing, and discovery software.
SKILLS:1. Demonstrated proficiency with standard office software and web-based applications.
2. Strong organizational skills and attention-to-detail.
3. Ability to primarily work independently without much direct supervision and manage multiple varying tasks in one day.
Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Receive and process library materials, including print items and equipment.
2. Perform physical processing of library materials, including labeling, barcoding, and preparing items for circulation.
3. Assist with acquisitions workflows, including order and invoice processing.
4. Support interlibrary loan operations, including borrowing, lending, tracking, and processing requests.
5. Maintain electronic resource records in the library management system and verify access to newly activated resources.
6. Maintain and update library website content to ensure information is accurate, current, and accessible.
7. Maintain subject guides and other library content using library specific products.
8. Compile usage statistics and assist with reports related to library collections, services, and electronic resources.
9. Collaborate with library faculty and staff on projects that support library operations, collections, and user services.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
