Description
New Lenox Public Library is looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and resourceful self-starter to join the Patron Services (Circulation) team. This hands-on position facilitates patron-focused services in a fast-paced environment to our growing community. If you enjoy collaboration and are passionate about helping others, this position is for you!  
How You'll Contribute:
The Patron Services Specialist is responsible for: 
  • Utilizing automated circulation system to perform full range of circulation procedures, including check in & check out of all materials 
  • Answering a variety of questions at the circulation desk  
  • Issuing patron cards, maintains files, and enters information into the database  
  • Placing holds for patrons and processes reserved materials upon arrival 
  • Inspecting materials for damage during checkouts and returns 
  • Collecting fines and fees from patrons 
  • Answering telephone to provide routine information and transfer calls to other departments; fax for patrons 
  • Carrying out procedures for notification of patrons for overdue materials  
  • Sorting checked in materials including borrowing and lending requests within system and shelves all types of library items 
  • Actively monitoring and restocks new book and A/V shelving  
  • Cleaning books as needed 
  • Assisting and instructing patrons with self-check, accessing their record online, paying fees online, and using the coin operated photocopier 
  • Ensuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and re-shelving materials
  • Accepting and processing impact fees for newly built homes within library district 
  • Assisting with library program set up as necessary 
  • Issuing Museum Adventure Passes  
  • Attending library training and continuing education as needed 
  • Supporting patrons' use of library services 
  • Performing other duties as required

Requirements include: 
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Experience handling currency and ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide 
  • One year customer service experience 
  • Enthusiasm to create a friendly, courteous, pleasant first impression of library 
  • Knowledge of the purposes and functions of libraries preferred 
  • Comfortable handling multiple tasks and prioritizing workflows 
  • Passion to work with the public in a positive manner
  • Flexible schedule
Working Conditions 
Work is performed in a typical library environment.  Must have valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance or have the ability to arrange own transportation between library and other locations as needed.

  • Salary range: $16.56 - $17.60 per hour
  • 40 vacation hours annually
  • 45 sick hours annually
  • Paid holidays
  • Additional paid leave time accrued at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked

This part-time, non-exempt position is scheduled for 20 hours per week and include the following schedule:
  • Primarily Monday - Friday 9am-1pm and every 3rd Saturday rotation
The selected candidate will report to the Patron & Technical Services Manager.
