Position Overview
The Business Development Manager is an existing role within Kimball Electronics (KE) Shared Services. This remote position is located outside headquarters, ideally located in the United States (remotely based between the East Coast and the Rocky Mountains) and it reports to the Vice President of New Business Development Director, for Kimball Electronics, who is located remotely. It is a global position that will be responsible for identifying prospective customers and developing long-term relationships with new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) customers in the Medical, Industrial and Automotive market segments. These are new relationships in the identified markets primarily focused on the North American market with global Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) manufacturing needs. Experience in the EMS industry from PCBA through to High-Level Assembly and Finished Device Assembly is required.
Quick Summary
The person in this role will spend most of their time identifying and landing new prospective customers in the Medical, Industrial and Automotive verticals. Activities include attracting long-term strategic customers for Kimball Electronics (KEI) through a combination of effective marketing activities and successful communication of the KE package of value (POV) and profile. To be successful the candidate must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and be able to land new customers. The person in this role must also enjoy learning about and working with different cultures (US, Mexico, China, Thailand, Romania, and Poland).
Basic Background Requirements
This position will require:
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within the Industrial, Medical and/or Automotive markets in the EMS industry, and the ability to understand customer's new product development processes and needs.
  • Must have EMS Business Development or Sales experience
  • Working independently and remote from Kimball Electronics facilities.
    • This is a remote position, ideally based in United States (remotely based between the East Coast and the Rocky Mountains)
  • The ability to identify prospective OEM customers, qualify their fit to the company's strategy and capabilities, and to land new medical, industrial, and/or automotive customers.
  • Experience in winning opportunities with new customers.
  • Skills include new customer sales, communication, organization, presentations, negotiation, cross functional collaboration and project management.
  • The ability to lead specific project or account teams (without direct reports) until they are transitioned to resources within our manufacturing operations.
  • Detailed orientated and responsive to prospective customer needs. The ability to maintain CRM prospect, opportunity, and quote data.
  • Leading teams (without direct reports) through quote activity for potential new accounts.
  • Experience with medical product development requirements would be beneficial. The ability to understand our customer's FDA/NMPA registration processes and product development processes.
  • The ability to work with all levels of the organization (Prospective Customers and internal to Kimball Electronics).
  • A willingness to travel in North America and occasionally to Europe and Asia.
  • The candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to resolve issues and provide creative solutions
  • Technically astute with Electronics Manufacturing Service (EMS) experience and knowledge of associated manufacturing processes
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Helpful, but not required is an engineering degree or other technical training.

Key Performance Objectives
  • Short Term: (0 to 3 months)
  • Learn and understand key capabilities of each Kimball Electronics facility
  • Develop a thorough understanding of use of CRM tools
  • Understand the Kimball Business Development process.
  • Prospect, Active Account, Strategy Statement Approval, Plant Visits, and RFQ process.
  • Develop an understanding of the Kimball quote development process
  • Begin the prospecting process of identifying prospective customers for Kimball Electronics
  • Assume responsibility for existing prospective accounts
  • Midterm: (3 to 18 months)
  • Identify a minimum of 2 new active accounts (prospects) per month
  • Complete 1 new approved strategy statement every other month
  • Complete 1 new plant visit every other month
  • Complete approximately 1 new RFQ per month.
  • Longer Term: (>18 months)
  • Identify approximately 2 new active accounts (prospects) per month
  • Complete 1 new approved strategy statement per month
  • Complete 1 new plant visit per month
  • Complete approximately 2 new RFQs per month.
  • Annually, land 2-3 new customers that meet the revenue and margin requirements needed by KEI facilities.

  • Identify and lead improvement processes within the business development processes.

The typical pay range for this role is: $150000 - $180000
