Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Inventory and Billing Assistant is responsible for operating room equipment maintenance and materials management; maintains operating room supply and equipment inventory; assigns and computes patient surgical charges.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Orders new and replacement instrumentation/equipment as directed by management personnel; receives and dispenses all direct order items delivered to the department; arranges for the borrowing and loaning of instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
3. Arranges for repair of equipment and instrumentation as directed; maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies as designated.
4. *Accurately reviews and computes patient surgical charges in accordance with established rates and guidelines; monitors cost - charge ratios for surgical supplies, notifies management of discrepancies and performs follow-up activities as needed.
5. Collects and compiles data for improving cost-effectiveness of department operations as requested.
6. *Responds to problems or discrepancies in inventory or billing; identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care.
7. Seeks educational and in-service opportunities to maintain and expand clinical knowledge, skills and techniques relevant to position.
8. Participates in unit-based quality improvement activities and the hospital's quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of medical terminology.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
3. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, processes and billing.
4. Ability to work in an environment with patient populations of acute, chronic, and complex disease processes.
5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
6. Ability to work in an environment related to changing patient and procedure needs.
7. Ability to effectively respond to emergent and stressful situations.
8. Ability to identify and provide suggestions for solutions to concerns/problems.
9. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal safety.
10. Ability to practice precautions when dealing with environmental hazards according to hospital/departmental policies/procedures and MSDS information.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Minimum of one (1) year experience with Windows and Microsoft applications (Word and Excel) required.
