HEAD BOYS VARSITY GOLF COACH
Valparaiso High School
General Job Description: The VHS Boys Varsity Golf Coach is responsible for establishing and cultivating a consistently high-caliber boys golf program at Valparaiso High School. This coach builds essential relationships with administrators, colleagues, coaches, community members, parents, and student-athletes to create a successful golf culture throughout the community. This coach is equally adept at skills and drills for player development as well as game planning and in-game adjustments for team success. The VHS Boys Varsity Golf Coach maintains a program-centric approach that enables players to continually develop and grow. In all, this coach teaches important life lessons and develops young men's character through the context of golf.
Qualifications:
? Extensive (10+ years) coaching experience in golf.
? An advanced understanding of the skills and concepts that are fundamental to teaching the game of golf.
? Flexibility, organization, and an admirable work ethic
? A vibrant personality that is well suited to work with teenage boys
? Excellent instructional skills and techniques
? Solid conflict resolution and communication skills
? Valid (state) teacher license is preferred
? Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Goal:
? To carry out the aims and objectives of the athletic program as outlined by the Athletic Director and school administration
? To instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy and field training necessary for them to realize their utmost degree of individual and team success.
? Provide instruction that will lead to the formation of moral values, pride of accomplishment, admirable social behavior, self discipline and self confidence.
Expectations:
? Maintain high standards as a teacher, both in the classroom and on the golf course, while advocating the skills, mission and objectives of the District and Athletic Department.
? Promote sportsmanship, be understanding and fair, and put integrity at the forefront of the program.
? Highly effective at communicating with players, parents, teachers, media, administrators and other groups within the community.
? Collaborate with other head coaches to promote well-rounded student athletes; includes Head Strength & Conditioning Coach as well as other sport coaches ? Demonstrate outstanding organizational and leadership skills
? Help ensure productive and positive golf experiences at the youth and middle school levels through collaboration with community members and middle school programs
? Solid understanding of communication methods that that help connect the golf program to the local and golf community (e.g. social media)
? Have experienced past success in coaching golf in a quality program, and have a strong background in coaching as evidenced by level of position and expertise in coaching
? Other duties assigned by the Athletic Director or Building Principal
Responsibilities:
? Organizing and executing daily practices as well as attending daily practices.
? Coaching games and organizing managers.
? Organizing equipment and completing the equipment inventory at the end of the season.
? Implement basic and advanced skills, concepts, and terminology related to the game of golf.
? Provide ongoing feedback to JV Golf Coach to continually improve and enhance your coaching staff.
? Participate in high school program team activities and initiate team fundraising projects.
? Supervision of athletes at and after practice at VHS.
? Complete all necessary NFHS coaching classes before working with VHS athletes.
? Assist with concession supervisions, attending coaches meetings, attending parent meetings and attending award events.
