The job of an assistant cross country coach is to provide professional leadership and management of a competitive cross country program at either the secondary school or college level. As an assistant cross country coach, you assist the head coach in designing the athletic programs and train the athletes with new techniques for competitions, focusing on effective ways to run long distances over different terrain. You work directly with student-athletes during practice and matches under the supervision of the head coach and may be responsible for the team budget. You also ensure the program is within the rules and regulations set by the school and state and encourage safety and sportsmanship.
