About the Role

The Director, Finance is a high-impact, transformative leadership role overseeing a 30+ person accounting group across a complex North American platform (~$25B AUM / ~$2B annual revenue).

We are looking for a proactive, collaborative finance leader who takes genuine ownership, thrives on solving complex challenges, and brings a continuous-improvement mindset to everything they do. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and partnering closely with executive leadership, you will balance high-level strategy with hands-on operational excellence by spearheading finance transformation, mentoring a strong team, and driving modern, automated workflows. You will also benefit from an extended, collaborative handover to ensure you are fully supported from day one.

Key Responsibilities

Continuous Improvement and Transformation

  • Sponsor and execute accounting transformation initiatives focused on simplification, standardization, and AI-enabled automation.
  • Proactively identify operational bottlenecks, driving automation across all accounting workflows and elevating close quality, speed, and audit readiness.
  • Lead financial integration and disposition accounting during acquisitions and capital recycling initiatives, establishing scalable standards for long-term growth.

Controllership

  • Direct complex accounting operations, guaranteeing accuracy and completeness across multiple entity trial balances.
  • Drive a disciplined, predictable, and accelerated close cycle across multiple sub-teams.
  • Act as the ultimate authority on complex IFRS and U.S. GAAP accounting judgments and company policies.
  • Coordinate external audits and oversee SOX compliance, proactively identifying risks and driving measures to remediate control gaps.
  • Deliver actionable financial insights to senior executives to support critical business decisions.

Leadership Expectations and Key Competencies

  • Make value-driven decisions, offer clear strategic direction, and maintain a strong biased-for-action mindset.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by setting ambitious expectations, delegating effectively, and developing succession depth within your 30+ person team.
  • Continuously challenge the status quo and instill a proactive continuous-improvement mindset across the group.
  • Build deep, trust-based relationships across executive, cross-functional, and operational business units.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • 12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, featuring substantial leadership over multi-layered teams in large, complex setups (e.g., Fortune Global 500, shared services, or matrixed accounting models).
  • Active Canadian CPA designation with exposure to a public company setting (TSX, NYSE, or NASDAQ), gained either through direct corporate employment or extensive public accounting (Big 4) audit experience.
  • Deep expertise in IFRS, U.S. GAAP, enterprise financial close, and working knowledge of SOX/ICFR control frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading major transformation, process automation, or large-scale change management initiatives.
  • Knowledge of IFS, Blackline, OneStream, Optro, or IT2 is a strong asset.

Application and Selection Process

  • When submitting your resume, please include a short cover letter outlining what motivates you to pursue this role, how you demonstrate ownership and drive change, and how this opportunity aligns with your career path.
  • Candidates moving past initial screening will complete a practical case study and present their findings directly to senior leadership.
  • Brookfield Renewable uses AI tools to assist in screening, assessing, and selecting candidates for this position.

Note: Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Brookfield’s identity. This position requires the employee to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days to perform most effectively.

  • Full reimbursement for professional fees and ongoing professional development.
  • We cultivate a culture where we invest in your growth and development.
