Job description

Engineering Liaison


The Engineering Liaison serves as the primary connection between Engineering, Production, Quality, Planning, and other departments to ensure technical requirements are clearly understood and effectively implemented. This position supports the release, interpretation, and communication of engineering information throughout the manufacturing process.


The Engineering Liaison helps resolve drawing, specification, tooling, process, and documentation questions; coordinates engineering changes; and supports production teams in meeting customer, quality, delivery, and configuration-control requirements within a precision machining and fabrication environment.


Primary Duties

Engineering and Production Coordination

• Serve as the primary point of contact between Engineering and manufacturing personnel

• Communicate approved engineering requirements, revisions, and process changes to affected departments

• Support machinists, fabricators, assemblers, inspectors, planners, and supervisors with technical questions • Coordinate timely responses to production issues that require engineering review

• Help ensure technical concerns are resolved without unnecessary disruption to production schedules

• Participate in production, planning, quality, and engineering meetings as assigned Technical Document Review

• Review customer drawings, models, specifications, purchase-order requirements, and related technical documents

• Verify part numbers, revisions, materials, dimensions, tolerances, and special requirements

• Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear technical information and coordinate resolution

• Ensure production teams have access to current approved drawings, specifications, routers, and work instructions

• Support document-control and configuration-control requirements

• Protect customer-controlled, proprietary, and export-controlled technical information Engineering Change Coordination

• Assist with processing engineering changes, redlines, deviations, waivers, and approved revisions • Coordinate review and approval of proposed changes with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Planning • Communicate approved changes to affected personnel and departments

• Verify obsolete documentation is removed from use or properly identified

• Maintain traceability of engineering decisions, approvals, and revision history

• Investigate production questions involving drawings, tolerances, materials, tooling, fixtures, process steps, or customer requirements

• Gather measurements, photographs, process information, and employee feedback for engineering review • Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing issues and identifying practical solutions

• Coordinate with CNC Programming, Tooling, Quality, and Operations to resolve process concerns

• Escalate significant technical, safety, quality, or delivery risks to responsible leadership

• Follow up to confirm approved solutions are implemented and effective Manufacturing Planning Support • Assist with development and review of manufacturing plans, routers, bills of material, and work instructions

• Verify that engineering requirements are accurately translated into production documentation

• Support identification of materials, tooling, fixtures, gauges, outside processes, and inspection requirements

• Participate in new-product introduction and production-readiness activities

• Help coordinate first-run, first article, and process-validation activities

• Provide feedback to Engineering and Planning based on production experience Quality and Compliance Support • Support compliance with AS9100D, ISO 9001:2015, customer specifications, and company procedures

• Assist with first article inspection, nonconformance review, corrective action, and root-cause analysis

• Coordinate technical input for material review and product-disposition decisions

• Help ensure product identification, traceability, and configuration requirements are maintained

• Support internal, customer, and certification audits by providing requested engineering records or clarification

• Promote accurate documentation and consistent use of approved processes Continuous Improvement • Identify recurring technical questions, process delays, and communication gaps

• Recommend improvements to drawings, work instructions, manufacturing plans, and engineering workflows

• Support cost-reduction, cycle-time, quality, and productivity improvement projects • Assist with standardizing engineering communication and change-control practices

• Track assigned actions and communicate progress to affected departments

• Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, models, specifications, and technical documents


• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, fabrication, forming, assembly, and inspection

• Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, materials, tooling, and production documentation

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to translate technical information into clear instructions for production personnel • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and follow-up skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing production needs • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to document and revision accuracy

• Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Quality, Planning, and Operations

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, CAD viewers, and document-management software


Minimum Experience and Education

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, manufacturing, drafting, machining, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

• Minimum of three years of experience in engineering support, manufacturing engineering, production support, CNC machining, fabrication, quality, or a related technical role

• Demonstrated experience interpreting engineering drawings and supporting manufacturing operations Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout office and manufacturing areas

• Ability to use stairs and access production, inspection, tooling, and equipment areas

• Ability to read and review electronic and hard-copy technical documents


• Job requires occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and carrying

• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment


Work Environment

This position is performed in office, engineering, and production areas within an active manufacturing facility. Employees may be exposed to CNC machinery, moving equipment, metal chips, coolant, oils, sharp tooling, manufacturing odors, dust, noise, and temperature variations. Employees must remain alert to machinery, forklifts, materials, and changing floor conditions; follow lockout/tagout and other applicable safety procedures; use designated walkways; and wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves for approved tasks, and closed-toe safety shoes.
