Unifeye Vision Partners is currently hiring for a Temp Ophthalmic Assistant, Colton, CA
SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Assistant generates important preliminary patient information to be used by the ophthalmologist; reviews patient status and performs a variety of medical tests while providing friendly, first-class service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Make introductions and establish rapport with patients providing friendly, first-class customer service and patient care.
  2. Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
  3. Test and Record Visual Acuity for patients of all levels of acuity, including preliterate, illiterate, non-verbal, and foreign language patients.
  4. Test Visual Acuity using Pinhole Occluder, Stereoacuity, Near Point Accommodation and Convergence, Distance and Near Acuity using optotype.
  5. Perform Visual Fields testing utilizing Amsler Grid, Confrontation Visual Fields, Automated Perimetry, and Goldmann Perimetry.
  6. Measure and Assess Pupils โ€“ RAPD.
  7. Measure and Record Intraocular Pressure using hand-held tonometer, applanation tonometer, and/or non-contact tonometer.
  8. Test and Record Ocular Motility for Versions and Ductions, Functions, Anomalies, Cover Tests, Stereoacuity, and Nystagmus.Perform Automated Keratometry.
  9. Neutralize spectacles using an automated lensometer.
  10. Perform and Record glare testing (BAT), potential acuity meter (PAM), pachymetry, OCT glaucoma laser testing, Ishihara color vision testing, and tear testing - Schirmer, BUT, Rose Bengal.
  11. Perform drop therapy and educate patients on medications and post-operative instructions, per doctor's orders.
  12. Perform corneal topography imaging and HRT/OCT scanning laser tests for glaucoma and retina.
  13. This is an in-office position, remote work is not available.
  14. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology, basic ophthalmic patient care, physiological, psychological, and psychosocial factors affecting health or illness specific to patient care needs.
  • Basic knowledge of surgical procedures, pharmacology, and specific treatments for common disease entities.
  • Ability to perform basic visual field testing.
  • Ability to operate machines including computer, calculator, visual field equipment, keratometer, camera, electronic flash, macros lens, air tonometer, hand-held tonometer, lensometer, autorefractor, blood pressure cuff, a-scan unit, and video editing units.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant or related experience required.
  • Experience working in Ophthalmology/Optometry strongly preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited Ophthalmic Technician program strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science degree strongly preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
