Job description

Assistant Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY

Assist in maintaining school district vehicles in safe operating condition in conformance with the local, county, state, and federal requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform minor and major repair duties for all vehicles
  • Grease, oil changes and filter changes
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance inspections for all vehicles
  • Assist mechanic with two person jobs as time allows
  • Work as an effective and cooperative member of the team
  • Share in the responsibility of keeping a clean and organized work area
  • Report any and all unsafe conditions
  • Complete all required paperwork
  • Attend training and meetings as requested or required
  • Perform interior and exterior body repair (i.e., painting)
  • Make service calls to downed buses
  • Transport or recovery of empty buses
  • Pick up orders and receive parts, as required
  • Order parts upon request
  • Assist in maintaining building security
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma; experience in vehicle repair, and be a team player.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License and must be able to obtain a CDL, class BP with a PS endorsement and air brakes and meet all other requirements for school bus drivers within 180 days of employment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part time position (15-20 hours/week). 

Wages commensurate with education and experience.
