Job description

Complement, supplement and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.

Hours:ย  32.5 hours/weekย ย ย

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
  2. Previous experience working with this age group and/or special education students is preferred
  3. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel.
  4. Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied academic assignments and personal care needs with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
  5. Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires. Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours as well.
  6. Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to physically manage students who are physically escalated as directed by the teacher / administrator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Complement, supplement and reinforce student's instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
  2. Assist with the preparation of material; clean up after students, etc.
  3. Assist with the general supervision of the students including lunchtime, recess time, etc.
  4. Complete Medicaid documents for billing and uploading all documents monthly
  5. Must sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid
  6. Employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical care or assistance with hygiene needs
  7. Assist with work-based learning by supporting students as a job coach in or outside of the school environment
  8. Other duties as assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:ย ย High school diploma or equivalent

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS:ย Ability to speak and write effectively.ย ย Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.ย Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
