Job Summary:
This position exists for the purpose of overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds, vehicles, and equipment.
Status: Full-time/Exempt
Emergency Designation: Essential
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assists Operations Director with recruiting, interviewing hiring, and training full-time employees and student workers.
  • Oversees all aspects of Grounds care and all aspects of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Physical Requirements (Also see Physical Demands at the end of this job description): The physical ability to use the body in primary type skills necessary to perform duties such as, but not limited to, the following:
  • Heavy lifting, carrying, and reaching high places.
  • Working in adverse elements such as rain, snow and cold.
  • Proficient use of hand tools
  • Using power tools and various pieces of grounds keeping equipment such as push-mowers, riding mowers, chainsaw, pruners, tractor etc.
  • Driving of vehicles and powered equipment such as riding mowers, tractors, backhoes, aerial lifts, and snowplows.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in grounds keeping and landscaping.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • PA Pesticide License categories 6 and 7 or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Decision-making abilities.
  • Provide care and maintenance of campus grounds in accordance with industry best practices
  • Operation of lawn mowers, both riding and push, to maintain grass at acceptable levels
  • Landscape by planting of flowers, grass, shrubs, bushes and trees or the coordination thereof.
  • Application of fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides to promote healthy growth and activity of plant life and to prevent disease and pest infestation
  • Maintain sidewalks and roadways is a safe a passable manner that is clear of debris
  • Trimming of shrubs and trees for both general maintenance and appearance as well as for hazards
  • Provides oversight for the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee and assist in salting and shoveling snow from walkways to ensure safe passing
  • Oversee and assist in salting and plowing of roadways for safe passing
  • Reading and understanding written instructions such as Work Orders.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities based on the needs of the College
  • Conduct grounds keeping operations in accordance with College standards and industry best-practices
  • Supervise and train full and part-time employees and student workers in all aspects of grounds-keeping operations
  • Assist Director in management of budgeted line items associated with grounds keeping
  • Assist Director in on-going development and updating of grounds keeping strategic plan/standards and guidelines
  • Assist Director in procurement of estimates and contracts with outside vendors in the maintenance and upkeep of College grounds
  • Provide input and ideas which promote a fresh and updated look to the Colleges landscape in keeping with College standards
  • Planning and scheduling of periodic/seasonal maintenance of campus landscape
  • Planning and installing of exterior Christmas decorations
  • Assist Athletics Department in the care and maintenance of athletic fields as needed
  • Assist Director of Operations in providing leadership and organization of inclement weather needs such as during snow removal.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
