Job Summary
The Assistant Engineering Manager will support Engineering Managers in overseeing rail construction projects across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, signal, traction power, communications, civil, structural, track, and catenary systems. This role is responsible for managing engineering status reports, tracking drawings and maintaining drawing logs, and helping ensure alignment between engineering activities and schedules across multiple projects.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
• Support engineering staff in tracking and managing all engineering activities through status reports and project logs
• Develop and maintain tracking logs as needed to support project requirements
• Attend project meetings to stay informed on construction schedules and milestones
• Identify scheduling conflicts or delays and assist in implementing corrective actions to maintain project timelines
• Assist in coordinating engineering activities to ensure alignment with overall project schedules
• Prepare daily survey reports and maintain survey schedule logs in accordance with project needs
• Maintaining engineering survey schedule logs
• Assist in updating engineering schedules using a project's Critical Path Method (CPM)
• Provide guidance and training to engineering staff on the use of status reports and tracking tools
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or a related field
• Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple construction projects simultaneously
• Familiar with CAD software such Bentley/MicroStation, REVIT, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
• Efficient in using project management and design workflow tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team
• Highly organized with strong time management capabilities.
• Willingness to travel across New York City's five boroughs for project meetings and fieldwork
• Physically able to navigate construction sites
(standing, climbing, stooping, crouching)
• Willingness to work outdoors and conduct field surveys
• Comfortable in all weather conditions and high-noise environments
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
