Job description

TITLE: Varsity Assistant Cross Country Coach
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
STATUS: Seasonal (4 Months/ Fall 2026)
SUMMARY
Located in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Hathaway Brown School is looking for a qualified candidate to fill a Varsity Asst. Cross Country position. The ideal candidate will be available Monday through Friday for after-school practices and games (typically 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM), as well as varying weekends for practices and meets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead a program of excellence for athletes and additional coaching staff
  • Attend all practices, games, team events amp; award events
  • Work in a professional manner with all members of the coaching staff
  • Provide all updated OHSAA required coaching certifications
  • Abide by all OHSAA Rules, Bylaws and Regulations
  • Maintaining vertical integration for athlete training and coach development
  • Exemplify the Blazer Covenant in all actions taken while representing HB
  • Attend annual coaches' meetings and seasonal OHSAA parent/student meeting
  • Collect all school issued uniforms amp; equipment following their final contest.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of skills and strategies of the sport.
  • Must be able to motivate and inspire players.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages high effort, integrity and sportsmanship
  • Previous coaching experience with a noted track record of success is a bonus.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude at all times
  • Display a commitment to continued learning and imp
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to complete the OHSAA coaching certification.
  • Other certifications may include but are not limited to: Fundamentals of Coaching, CPR, First Aid training, Concussions in Sports, Lindsay’s Law (Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training), and Pupil Activity Permit.
