Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
Wisconsin State Fair Park is seeking to hire an enthusiastic and creative Social Media & Marketing Specialist that reports to the Marketing & Content Manager. This position is responsible for maintaining social media platforms and contributing to the positive brand image for Wisconsin State Fair Park via social and digital platforms for the annual Wisconsin State Fair, Milwaukee Mile Speedway, Harvest Fair, and all other State Fair Park initiatives.
Candidates must be excellent writers, quick learners, able to take initiative, and capable of working with little direction at times. The ideal candidate will be able to work under pressure and pay close attention to detail.
EMPLOYMENT TYPE
This position is an unclassified, Dual-Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system, working an average of 40 hours per week throughout the calendar year. Annual hours worked will not exceed 2,078.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The starting wage for this role will be $25.00 to $26.50 per hour, based on qualifications. A comprehensive fringe benefits package, including a pension, health and dental insurance, life insurance, and disability insurance is available after a minimum employment period is met. Paid time off for vacation, holidays, etc. is not included as part of the benefits package per State of Wisconsin Legislature, s. 230.26(4), Wis. Stats.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Social Media
  • Adopt, cultivate, and champion the voice of Wisconsin State Fair and State Fair Park throughout all external communications
  • Execute strategic social media campaigns, report success metrics, and track performance
  • Execute all aspects of social media campaigns across multiple platforms, including, Facebook, X, formerly Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Create engaging copy and post natively or through Agorapulse or similar social media management platform
    • Schedule posts
    • Respond to Fairgoer comments
    • Answer Fairgoer direct messages in a professional and brand appropriate tone
  • Develop and create real-time postings during the annual Wisconsin State Fair to highlight entertainment, events, and unique experiences
  • Work with team to create engaging, timely, unique, and brand-relevant content for all platforms
  • Copywriting and editing skills required, adaptability to the brand voice of Wisconsin State Fair Park’s multiple channels with uniquely developed brands
  • Create and oversee all social media contests including, but not limited to, maintaining contest rules for each promotion, and working closely with the team to administer them through platforms such as Hive.co
  • Adhere to content calendar for both the State Fair and Fair Park social media channels
  • Coordinate & schedule within content calendars social media efforts with other departments, including but not limited to, Human Resources, Competitive Exhibits, Agriculture, and Event Services
  • Assist with sponsorship proposals and ensure fulfilment of contractual obligations relating to social media promotions and posts
  • Create and maintain the robust content creator program for State Fair Park including budgeting, pitching, contracting, execution supervision, and recaps
  • Provide detailed social media recaps to various departments for use in post-event presentations

Marketing
  • Maintain various established brand voices based on origin of content
  • Maintain photo & video assets including recognizing, coordinating and obtaining assets that are needed for each event
  • Work closely with marketing agency of record to ensure best use of tools to gather impactful insights
  • Partner with marketing agency of record to ensure compliance with all regulations regarding campaigns
  • Guide seasonal marketing staff as they assist with social media content by setting clear expectations and managing workload
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of special events during and leading up to Wisconsin State Fair Park events
  • Conduct regular website audits of agency websites identifying opportunities for copy, imagery, and content edits
  • Ensure positive communication within the Marketing Division including accurate note taking and distribution at departmental meetings and various administrative tasks associated with the department
  • Support Marketing Division in creating comprehensive recaps and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Stay well-versed on ever-changing marketing trends, especially in the event and tourism industries
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of three years of social media marketing experience, required
  • Proficiency in using Facebook, Instagram, X, formerly Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Project management skills and strong planning, time management, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Digital marketing experience is preferred
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in communications or related field is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and address content-related issues
  • Event planning and execution experience
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, at times leading up to and during the Wisconsin State Fair
  • Knowledge of WordPress or other CMS and entry-level graphic design program knowledge a plus

SPECIAL NOTES
The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
Contingent on business needs and the seasonality of WSFP, up to 2 days of remote work per week is available after an initial training period. Remote work will be discussed during the interview stage. High speed internet access is needed to meet the requirements of remote work.
