Summary

Ohio's Electric Cooperatives is seeking a Communications Specialist, who is responsible for supporting the communications department with projects related to writing, newsletter development, social media management and content development, campaign management and website maintenance. The communications specialist will support these efforts for Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., Buckeye Power, Inc as well as its affiliates and member cooperatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  • Develop the company and Ohio Cooperative Living's social media channels, including writing content, coordinating graphic development, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement.
  • Assist with writing communications in various styles, including web articles, newsletter articles, social media content, and occasional magazine articles.
  • Support the development of marketing emails for the company and its member cooperatives using RGE Studio (formerly known as Beefree), including writing or copy editing of content.
  • Work closely with management to plan, coordinate, produce, and execute multi-platform strategic communications campaigns for the company and its member cooperatives.
  • Assist with the maintenance of company websites - ohioec.org and ohiocoopliving.com - and the websites of its member cooperatives. As needed, update magazine articles or press releases, job postings, and imagery.
  • Participate in member cooperative meetings to identify ways for the company to support their communications needs.
  • Actively participate in the company's annual marketing, member services, and communications conferences.
  • Build relationships with cooperative member communications professionals to seek out best practices, continued learning, and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or journalism.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years' experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Relevant on-the-job experience or education over and above the requirement described above may be substituted for part of the experience requirement.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Excellent creative writing and copyediting skills required.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpretational skills required, including the ability to interact frequently with others, both in person and through phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Strong project management and time management required.
  • Experience with Meta, Sprout Social, or similar social media scheduling platforms is desired.
  • Proficiency using computer software and apps such as Microsoft Office, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of design software, including Canva and/or Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is preferred.
  • Experience utilizing content management systems, including Wordpress or Drupal.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain constructive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Possess a willingness to grow, develop, and implement constructive feedback.
  • Think creatively, stay organized, and work both independently and collaboratively on teams.
  • Experience making independent decisions. Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented office environment.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Must have close visual acuity to view computer monitors. Ability to lift/carry cameras and related video equipment for photo and video shoots, as needed. Ability to interact frequently with others, both in person and through phone, email, and written correspondence.

Work Environment

Occasional work outside of normal business hours if needed. Travel approximately 15% of workdays, occasional overnight stay and in-state day travel, is required.
