Job description

Managing Editor - Historic Christian Publication
Columbus, OH area, Full-Time, Onsite
Salary: $67K - $74K

Some publications simply report stories. Others become part of the history they document.

Our client is a 100+ year old Christian missionary organization whose historic publication* *has helped generations of readers explore faith, theology, ministry, and missionary work throughout the United States and around the world.

We're recruiting an experienced Managing Editor for our client, a long-established Christian missionary organization with nearly 2,000 churches across the U.S. and a global ministry presence.

You'll take the editorial lead on its award-winning publication that has been telling stories of faith and mission for more than a hundred years. The next step? Bringing that legacy into a *digital-first future without losing the voice, values, and purpose that have defined it.

Just as important as editorial experience, our client is specifically seeking someone who shares and understands its Christian beliefs and mission and can authentically bring that perspective to the work.

What you'll Own

  • Editorial strategy and production across web and print
  • The evolution of *their publication *into a digital-first content platform
  • Editorial calendars, publishing schedules, contributors, and workflows
  • Commissioning and editing stories focused on faith, theology, ministry, and mission
  • Recruiting and developing writers and freelance contributors
  • Editing for voice, clarity, accuracy, consistency, and audience engagement
  • Maintaining editorial standards and style guidelines
  • Collaboration with storytelling, UX, creative, and organizational leadership
  • Publication budgets and freelance resources
  • Research, fact-checking, and content alignment
  • Occasional travel for events and story-gathering assignments

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 5–7 years of editorial, publishing, journalism, or comparable experience
  • Strong editing, writing, proofreading, and storytelling skills
  • Experience managing publications, contributors, and editorial production
  • Digital publishing experience and an understanding of how audiences consume content today
  • Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail
  • Personal alignment with our client's Christian faith, beliefs, values, and missionary purpose
  • Experience within or familiarity with the client's denomination is strongly preferred

For an editor who believes storytelling can strengthen faith, connect communities, and inspire action, this is an opportunity to help shape what comes next for a publication with an extraordinary history.
