Job description

This opportunity entails, while under close supervision, assisting the Communications and Engagement team with a variety of marketing, public involvement, employee engagement, and administrative activities. The intern will gain hands-on experience supporting communications initiatives through content creation, event support, storytelling, social media development, and multimedia production while working with transportation and infrastructure projects that impact communities across Ohio.
Relocation and housing are not provided for this position.
Candidates are encouraged to include a portfolio or writing samples with their application.
Key Responsibilities of this position include:
-Assist in developing communication materials including newsletters, presentations, fact sheets, social media content, and public engagement materials.
-Support the creation of visual content including graphics, photography, short videos, and other digital media assets that align with client/HNTB brand standards.
-Visit project sites and company events to capture photos, video footage, and employee stories for use in internal and external communications.
-Conduct interviews with project team members and employee-owners and help create storytelling packages highlighting projects, career experiences, and community impact.
-Help maintain and organize communication resources, photo libraries, and project-related content.
-Conduct basic research on communication trends, community engagement strategies, and best practices to support team initiatives.
-Collaborate with communications, marketing, and project teams to support ongoing campaigns and special projects.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs a variety of tasks which may be specific to a particular functional area of activity such as preparing reports, tracking and evaluating results, coordinating program developments, answering the phone, receiving messages, transmitting information, making copies, editing documents, handling routine inquires and making appointments.
  • Participates in meetings and interfaces with various teams.
  • Assists management in analyzing various data.
  • Works on special projects and provides research as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus enrolled in a related undergraduate or graduate program

What We Prefer:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Graphic Design, English, or a related field.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience creating content, still and video, for social media, school organizations, student publications, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar creative tools.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Interest in community engagement, public involvement, infrastructure projects, or transportation-related communications.

  • Creative thinker with strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

  • Willing to travel.

The approximate pay range for Ohio is $19.12 - $28.68. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
