Assistant Controller

Alvarez Construction is one of Louisiana's largest and fastest-growing residential homebuilders, closing over 300 homes annually. As our company continues to grow, we're looking for an Assistant Controller who is ready to take the next step in their career.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager looking to transition into a leadership role while working alongside executive leadership. You'll gain exposure to every aspect of the business-from financial reporting and cost accounting to operational analysis and strategic decision-making.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
  • Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and accounting records.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate variances.
  • Assist with audits, tax support, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.

Cost Accounting & Operational Finance

  • Analyze job costing, project profitability, and cost trends.
  • Assist in maintaining Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and other operational reporting.
  • Partner with Purchasing, Construction, Sales, and Operations to improve financial visibility and business performance.
  • Develop meaningful financial analyses that support operational decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen financial processes.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Support and mentor members of the Accounting team.
  • Help develop standardized procedures and improve internal controls.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects that improve company performance.
  • Continuously look for ways to automate processes and leverage technology.

Systems & Analytics

  • Utilize ERP systems, Excel, and business intelligence tools to analyze financial data.
  • Assist with dashboard development and KPI reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement of accounting systems and reporting processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong background in cost accounting, inventory accounting, project accounting, manufacturing, construction, industrial, distribution, or other operational accounting environments.
  • Excellent understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Preferred

  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Experience with Power BI or other reporting tools.
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
