Project Inspector
Engineering and Public Works
JOB SUMMARY:
The Project Inspector provides construction administration and inspection support for water, sewer, water treatment, and wastewater treatment projects, as required, to ensure contractor compliance with plans and City/OEPA specifications for the Engineering and Public Works Department. This is a full-time position. Interested candidates can apply on-line. A Civil Service Exam will be held on Friday, August 7th, 2026, at 10 AM. The exam location is the Athens Community Center, 701 E. State St., Athens, OH 45701.
JOB DUTIES:
• Provide construction inspection for street-related and bridge rehabilitation projects to ensure contractor compliance with plans and City/ODOT specifications.
• Provide construction inspection for water, sewer, water treatment, and wastewater treatment projects, as required, to ensure contractor compliance with plans and City/OEPA specifications.
• Perform field tests on materials to ensure quality control of project materials.
• Assist City Engineer or Assistant City Engineer with project administration.
• Assist with maintaining project-related files and conduct prevailing wage interviews for the Engineering and Public Works Department.
• Assumes other responsibilities and performs other related duties as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS and QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of this position.
• Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction EngineeringTechnology or Construction Management, or a minimum of 18 months ofconstruction project inspection experience.
• Prior field and office experience in construction project administration ismandatory.
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Office is required. Experience with AutoCAD is desirable.
• Knowledge of ODOT Project Development Process, EPA grant requirements,and/or Ohio Public Works Commission grant requirements desirable.
• Obtain an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 Certification within 6months of employment.
• Candidate must be familiar with Traffic Work Zone and Maintenance of Traffic
• Knowledge of Flexible Pavement.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
