Job Description:

Business & Engineering Social Media Graduate Assistant

The Business & Engineering Social Media Graduate Assistant provides an opportunity for a Mercer University graduate student to gain hands-on experience in higher education marketing, communications, and digital storytelling while pursuing an advanced degree. This position serves both the School of Business and the School of Engineering and reports jointly to designated representatives from each school.

The Graduate Assistant is responsible for maintaining an active and engaging social media presence across multiple platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, while highlighting student experiences, faculty achievements, events, programs, and accomplishments within both schools.

Duties and Responsibilities

Social Media Management

  • Manage and maintain the School of Business and School of Engineering social media accounts, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Create, schedule, and publish content that aligns with the branding and communication goals of both schools.
  • Ensure social media platforms remain current, engaging, and reflective of ongoing activities and achievements.
  • Monitor social media accounts for engagement opportunities and assist with timely responses as appropriate.

Content Creation

  • Develop original content including photos, videos, graphics, reels, stories, and written copy for social media platforms.
  • Capture content at academic, professional, student, alumni, and community events hosted by either school.
  • Conduct interviews or gather quotes from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests when appropriate to enhance storytelling efforts.
  • Produce content that highlights student success, faculty accomplishments, research initiatives, experiential learning opportunities, and special events.

Event Coverage

  • Attend events hosted by the School of Business and School of Engineering to document activities and create real-time or post-event social media content.
  • Be available to capture content on short notice when significant events, announcements, or achievements occur.
  • Coordinate with faculty, staff, and event organizers to identify opportunities for social media coverage.

Collaboration & Communications

  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and administrators from both schools to identify content opportunities.
  • Assist with promoting programs, events, initiatives, and announcements through social media channels.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging, branding, and visual presentation across all platforms.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain an organized library of photos, videos, and other digital assets for future use.
  • Assist with special marketing and communications projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties related to social media, marketing, and communications in support of the School of Business and School of Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Current Mercer University graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Ability to create engaging photo and video content using mobile devices and editing software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond to changing needs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to attend occasional evening or special events as needed.

Terms, Conditions & Compensation

  • Hours: 20-25 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate academic schedules.
  • Duration: Fall 2026 - Summer 2027: 12 credits for Fall and Spring, 6 credits for Summer
  • Compensation:
    • Up to $13 per hour
    • Graduate assistantship package including tuition coverage, required fees, and monthly stipend
