Job description

The English Language Teacher of Record (EL TOR) will deliver direct provision for English language development to EL students (i.e., co-teaching, pull-out groups, support for online curriculum). The EL TOR is responsible for providing support to administration, teachers, and support staff to provide consistent and effective services to EL students. The Teacher of Record will implement programs, procedures, and support to ensure eligible students are successful in the educational environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must either have ENL licensure or be working towards your ENL licensure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards and WIDA Standards
  • Demonstrated effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Indiana State Teaching License or equivalent

Job Requirements

Create, review, and implement the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with the building principal or designee and teachers, including data analysis, daily language development instruction, and other EL supports to ensure the EL student has access to standards-based grade-level content. The TOR will work with the EL Coordinator to maintain consistent district protocols for programming.


Provide daily instruction to EL students based on Individual Learning Plan as differentiated by the SMCSC English Language Learner Plan (i.e., direct instruction for entering and emergent learners).

Consistent and frequent collaboration with classroom teachers, who have been trained in language acquisition, to ensure instruction and assessment are appropriate for the student at their current level of English proficiency. Ensuring classroom teachers have access to and are implementing the accommodations and modifications within the ILP with fidelity.

Oversight of ELD instruction by trained instructional aides (IAs) on English language acquisition (i.e., at least 30-45 minutes/day, 4-5 days a week in frequency and duration beyond standard English Language Arts instruction, such as Imagine Learning or Wells Phonics).

Assessing and analyzing English learner progress to make instructional adjustments to improve student learning.

Assist building administrators or designees with language proficiency testing to identify students who qualify for EL programs and to evaluate student progress.

Assist each building principal or designee with ILP and NESP/Title III compliance, including assurance of the required timely communication with parents concerning their child’s EL status (i.e., Annual Parent Notification); dissemination of Home Language Surveys, exit letter, and two-year monitoring, and additional parent communication on EL program-related information, such as WIDA ACCESS results or notification of existing EL services

Providing EL expertise to case conferences for ELs with disabilities, retention meetings, MTSS meetings, referrals for the High Ability program, and other school-based processes about EL students. Work in collaboration with the EL Coordinator on any referrals for special education services.

Implement the formal monitoring process for students who have exited EL services for two years after their reclassification in partnership with the EL Coordinator.

Support parent engagement and advocacy under the guidance of the EL Coordinator and in support of the building administration. Collaborate with the EL Coordinator on parent engagement activities and the coordination of translation services.

Maintains confidential records on all referred students and student/parent contacts following federal and state law, Board policy, and the procedure of the school’s EL education program.
