Job description

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated Toddler Lead Teacher to join our growing team. The ideal candidate has a CDA credential and 2–3 years of experience in early childhood education, particularly with toddlers. This role involves leading a two-year-old classroom, managing daily routines, ensuring classroom safety, supporting developmental growth, and modeling positive behavior management.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Opening Duties:

  • Clock in using Homebase and Brightwheel.
  • Retrieve iPad, classroom phone, and walkie-talkie.
  • Check for parent and school messages via Brightwheel.
  • Take out garbage and prep classroom for the day.
  • Pick up breakfast from the kitchen and assist in serving it.
  • Support children with handwashing and cleaning tables post-meal.
  • Assist with morning diaper changes or potty support.

Classroom Teaching & Management:

  • Lead circle time and morning welcome songs.
  • Implement and adapt daily lesson plans aligned with center curriculum.
  • Supervise free play, structured activities, and transitions.
  • Manage toddler behavior using positive redirection and age-appropriate expectations.
  • Support children in developing self-help and social-emotional skills.
  • Prepare learning materials in advance and maintain engagement throughout the day.

Collaboration & Team Support:

  • Work cooperatively with co-teachers and support staff.
  • Step in to help manage children with challenging behaviors when the director is unavailable.
  • Assist kitchen staff with preparing and delivering children’s plates when needed.
  • Answer phones during break times, lunch periods, or as directed.
  • Communicate classroom needs, issues, and parent concerns to the director.

Child Safety & Wellbeing:

  • Maintain constant supervision of children and ensure a safe, clean environment.
  • Conduct routine visual checks of the classroom and children.
  • Perform and log diaper changes and assist with potty training per state guidelines.
  • Record daily activities, meals, toileting, and naps in Brightwheel.
  • Respond to and report accidents, incidents, and behavioral challenges using required forms and communication procedures.

End-of-Day & Closing Duties:

  • Clean and disinfect classroom: tables, chairs, windows, changing tables, rugs, floors, and shelves.
  • On assigned days (e.g., Wednesday & Friday), mop floors and fog the room when center is closed.
  • Ensure all children are signed out and rooms are checked: outlets, lights, doors, and general safety.
  • Charge and store iPad and walkie-talkie overnight.
  • Sign the Center Closing Log when the director is unavailable.
  • Clean teacher lounge when assigned and maintain cleanliness logs.

Qualifications:

  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credential required.
  • 2–3 years of experience working with toddlers in a licensed childcare facility.
  • Knowledge of toddler development and classroom behavior management techniques.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask, remain calm, and lead with patience and professionalism.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (preferred).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and sit, stand, or kneel for extended periods.
  • Able to respond quickly in active classroom settings.
  • Must be comfortable performing routine cleaning and sanitation tasks.
