Job Summary:

Bucknell University seeks a part time Research Assistant in the Biomedical Engineering Lab. The person in this role serves as an assistant in the process of research. They will work in the lab to analyze samples and perform experiments. They will assist with writing, development, and editing of protocols; maintain lab facilities and ongoing operation of the lab, and collaborates with Facilities personnel, fellow Lab Coordinators, faculty and students. They will coordinate with outside vendors for ordering and delivery of new instruments, equipment, supplies, chemicals, laboratory gases and/or minor equipment. They will assist with and advise students on their project or product design, emphasizing consideration
for current safety principles and standards involving regulations. Performs related tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratories.
Reporting directly to the Biomedical Engineering Department Chair, this part time, 20 hours/week, 52 weeks/yr position is eligible for limited benefits. This position is donor funded for two years, and may be renewed pending the availability of additional funding and departmental need.

What You Will Do - Essential Functions

  • Assists with the execution of research experiments and projects by performing routine technical procedures, preparing necessary materials, and following established protocols to ensure accurate data collection.

  • Maintains research spaces by procurement of materials and monitoring lab inventory

  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of all research activities, including data entry and preliminary results, while ensuring documentation complies with institutional and project-specific standards,

  • Performs maintenance and calibration of the instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as they arise. Coordinates with vendors and/or campus colleauges as needed, to arrange for service or repair.

  • Keeps laboratories stocked with necessary supplies including gloves, wipes, safety glasses, and other proper PPE such as lab coats and safety shields. Ensures needed equipment or instruments are available, working and in place for use, and that utensils, glassware, machines are available.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
