What are Assistant Artist Managers?

Assistant Artist Managers are professionals who support artist managers in handling the business and administrative aspects of an artist's career. Their responsibilities often include scheduling, coordinating events, managing communications, and assisting with marketing or promotional activities. They act as a liaison between the artist, management, and other industry professionals, ensuring that the artist's daily needs and long-term goals are met efficiently. This role is crucial for keeping the artist's career organized and running smoothly, allowing the artist to focus on their creative work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Assistant Artist Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Artist Manager, you need a solid understanding of the music or entertainment industry, exceptional organizational skills, and often a bachelor's degree in business, arts management, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard scheduling software, CRM tools, and social media platforms is highly beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills, discretion, and proactive problem-solving make someone stand out in this role. These abilities are crucial for efficiently managing artists' schedules, building industry relationships, and supporting the artist's career growth.

How does an Assistant Artist Manager typically support both the artist and the lead manager in day-to-day operations?

As an Assistant Artist Manager, you'll often act as a crucial link between the artist, the lead manager, and various third parties such as venues, agents, and publicists. Your daily responsibilities may include scheduling meetings, coordinating travel and logistics, managing communications, and assisting with contract administration. You'll also help monitor social media activity, organize promotional events, and ensure that the artist's needs are met during tours or appearances. This role requires strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to handle confidential information, as you'll frequently juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

About Sony Music Entertainment
At Sony Music Entertainment, we fuel the creative journey. We've played a pioneering role in music history, from the first-ever music label to the invention of the flat disc record. We've nurtured some of music's most iconic artists and produced some of the most influential recordings of all time.
Today, we work in more than 70 countries, supporting a diverse roster of international superstars, developing and independent artists, and visionary creators. From our position at the intersection of music, entertainment, and technology, we bring imagination and expertise to the newest products and platforms, embrace new business models, employ breakthrough tools, and provide powerful insights that help our artists push creative boundaries and reach new audiences. In everything we do, we're committed to artistic integrity, transparency, and entrepreneurship.
Sony Music Entertainment is a member of the Sony family of global companies.
As a Specialist at SyncShop, you'll work at the intersection of music and stories. We place the world's most iconic music into every type of visual media imaginable. In this role, you will represent Sony Music's recordings to the TV/Film community and be a high volume deal maker. If you are passionate about everything that is happening in the TV & Film industry, and if your knowledge of music and the music business is what gets you out of bed in the morning, we need you and your demonstrated music licensing abilities to help us put thousands of songs on screens all over the world.
What you'll do:
  • Process a very high volume of TV/Film music clearances from beginning to end by communicating and negotiating deal terms between clients, artists, and labels as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Manage and update deal terms, track correspondence, and deliver music files for every deal you handle using Sony's organization and delivery systems
  • Pitch Sony's music to your assigned clients (music supervisors, clearance executives, networks, and studios), both pro-actively and by responding to specific searches you receive or are assigned
  • Contribute ideas and data to meetings with artists, managers, clients, marketers, and colleagues concisely and enthusiastically
  • Host and assist artist performances and presentations as directed (shows, showcases, etc.)
Who you are:
  • You have 2+ years of relevant music licensing experience already - most likely at a record label, music publisher, streaming company, TV network, film studio, production music library, or music supervision / clearance company.
  • You possess a thorough knowledge of music licensing terminology and best practices
  • You like to negotiate. You follow through on projects all the way to completion. You are results-oriented.
  • You are a clear and effective communicator.
  • You are a highly organized person that pays close attention to the details.
  • You are hungry to learn and grow. You are curious, ask questions, and get excited about new projects.

What we give you:
  • You join an inclusive, collaborative and global community where you have the opportunity to channel your passion every day
  • A modern office environment designed to foster productivity, creativity, and teamwork empowering you to bring your best
  • An attractive and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life & disability coverage, and 401K + employer matching
  • Voluntary benefits like company-paid identity theft protection and resources for pets, mental health and meditation resources, industry-leading fertility coverage, fully paid leave for childbirth or bonding, fully paid leave for caregivers, programs for loved ones with developmental disabilities and neurodiversity, subsidized back-up child and elder care, and reimbursement for adoption, surrogacy, tuition, and student loans
  • Investment in your professional growth and development enabling you to thrive in our vibrant community.
  • The space to accelerate progress, positively disrupt, and create what happens next
  • Time off for a winter recess
