Job description


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Aquatic Director/Assistant Aquatic Director or assigned supervisor, the Swim Instructor will assure the safety, well-being and enjoyment of all class participants in his/her class. The Instructor is responsible for teaching the strokes by instructing, demonstrating, and correcting the individual so they may learn to the best of their ability. Swim instructors should make and keep swimming a fun activity, while bearing in mind that safety can never be compromised and the swim instruction guidelines must be adhered to.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensure all health and safety guidelines are strictly adhered to.

2. To teach in a professional, courteous manner, be attentive to all participants, eliminate unsafe practices and physical hazards.

3. Exhibit respect for the pool rules, obeying them at all times.

4. Have a positive and friendly attitude.

5. Properly dresses in a swim suit at all times.

6. Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to shift start time and be on deck 5 minutes prior to class time.

7. Instructor must make sure classes start on time and end on time, adjusting of class time is not acceptable or the decision of the instructor.

8. Take accurate attendance at the beginning of each class.

9. Make every effort to know each child's name by third class.

10. Be prepared to teach and know the subject of your instruction.

11. Demonstrate swim techniques in the water. (Polliwog & Guppy instructors must be in the water at all times. Minnow I & above levels, instructor must be in a minimum of 4 complete classes).

12. While class participants are doing warm-ups, observe and, if needed, correct their strokes to avoid bad habits from developing.

13. Be imaginative. Refer to the skills in the Progressive manual and create new ones.

14. Keep your record sheets up to date on each student, making sure they are complete and accurately filled out and are kept safe.

15. Send home evaluations reports during the scheduled evaluation period. Positive feedback should be the primary objective.

16. Remind parents of the pre-registration period.

17. Never leave the deck once your class has begun.

18. Retrieve all equipment you will need for your lesson prior to class starting and put away when you've completed your class.

19. When unable to work, it is your responsibility to find a sub, submit it on the sub sheet to the Aquatic Director or Assistant Aquatic Director 24 hours prior to your shift.

20. All notices will be attached to your paychecks, it is imperative that you read such notices and act accordingly when necessary.

21. Each session should have a character development segment incorporated into it.

22. All instructors are expected to follow the House Rules.

23. Instructors are required to encourage a family friendly and member friendly environment.


REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be a minimum of 14 years of age.

· Must have knowledge & skills of all 4 strokes.

· Must attend all in-house workshops

· CPR & First aid is suggested.


PHYSICAL REQURIEMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Ability to lift, standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, concentration, attention and focus, ability to communicate and listen, average to warm in-door and out-door pool heat and humidity.
