POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Association Director of Properties and consistent with the Ys mission and values, the Maintenance Technician Apprentice provides support for general mechanical construction and maintenance services for YMCA facilities. The Maintenance Technician Apprentice will travel between YMCA properties and provide support by working with Maintenance Technicians and complete assigned work on facility equipment, systems, and components. The Maintenance Technician Apprentice will serve as a resource for risk management and safety and will ensure the safety of staff and members. The Apprentice will be trained by experienced staff in general trades skills and will have the opportunity to become a Maintenance Technician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Works with assigned Maintenance Technician to maintain, install, and repair various facility equipment, systems, and components.
  2. Learn how to properly diagnoses malfunctions in the facility's equipment, systems, or components and take appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  3. Provides upkeep of the grounds to ensure that litter, equipment, and debris is out of sight and properly stored.
  4. Maintain and support safety efforts through properties audits, staff training and required certifications. Serving as a resource for Risk Management and Safety for the branch.
  5. Works with assigned Maintenance Technician while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals and branches.
  6. Assist in maintaining appropriate inventory of replacement equipment and systems.
  7. Utilizes work order system to track, report, monitor and communicate the recording of equipment, system, and component history and work.
  8. Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on facility equipment, systems, and components in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Minimum age 16 required.
  2. Six months or more of related experience preferred.
  3. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid.
  4. New Employee Orientation and online trainings required.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  8. Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports in general.
  9. Desire and ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
