Job Description

Are you a Certified Nursing Assistant with a passion for providing exceptional care in a behavioral health setting? We have an exciting opportunity for a CNA to join our team in Brattleboro, VT. As a CNA in the Psychiatric/Behavioral Health unit, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care and support to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vital Signs and Records: Demonstrate proficiency in taking and recording vital signs, including weights, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and intake/output measurements.
  • Patient Interviews: Conduct interviews with new and returning patients to assess their general health status and gather information about outside healthcare providers. Record this information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Specimen Handling: Exhibit knowledge of specimen collection, storage, and delivery criteria for toxicology testing.
  • Release of Information: Obtain necessary release of information documentation as required for patient care.
  • Health Screening: Administer general health screening tools to new and existing patients as part of the assessment process.
  • Documentation and Communication: Maintain standards for accurate and timely documentation, including the completion of Patient/Staff incident reports and Hazard/Near Miss reports within 24 hours of incidents.
  • Patient Interaction: Address issues of self-disclosure in accordance with program guidelines and maintain a professional demeanor as a representative of the program, setting an example for patients in terms of appearance, hygiene, and behavior.
  • Patient Property: Be responsible for the care and safekeeping of patients' property.
  • Behavioral Management: Set limits for patients and follow through by teaching alternative behaviors.
  • Team Support: Ability to serve as a role model and provide orientation to new Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) on the unit.
  • Computer Proficiency: Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of computers for documentation and communication.
  • Organizational Skills: Exhibit strong organizational skills in managing patient care tasks and responsibilities.
  • Clinical Assessment: Possess essential working knowledge and assessment skills to recognize and report unusual symptoms and address special needs as they arise.

  • Psych/Behavioral Health Experience: REQUIRED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience: REQUIRED (First-time travelers will be considered)
  • Willingness to float to other units, including child/adolescents: REQUIRED
