Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Rivian is growing fast, and our employees rely on a complex ecosystem of tools to build the future of transportation. We are looking for a Productivity Platforms Manager to own the "Run" function of our Productivity Platforms (Google Workspace, Atlassian, Slack, and more including emerging AI tools).

In this role, you will not just keep the lights on—you will build the engine that powers our IT service delivery. You will act as the Incident Commander during outages, the Financial Operations Lead for our software budget, and the Process Architect ensuring we hit our goals. You will partner with our Platform Architects. You will manage a team of Engineers, Admins, and Business Analysts to ensure our platforms are stable, compliant, and cost-efficient. This role will report to our Sr. Manager. We are open to location for this role, but must be in one of our center of gravity locations.

Responsibilities
1. Operational Excellence & Incident Command (The "Run")
  • Platform Availability: Serve as the primary owner for the health and stability of our core platforms (Google Workspace, Jira/Confluence, Slack).
  • Incident Commander: Lead the "War Room" during critical P1/P2 outages. You will manage communication to the business, coordinate with engineering and vendors, and own the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process and remediations to prevent recurrence.
  • SLA/SLO Management: Define, measure, and report on service levels. Ensure our ticket queues (Tier 2/3) are moving effectively and that we are meeting our commitments to the business.
  • Reporting: You will report on key operational metrics to IT leadership on a regular basis, going beyond numbers and providing strategic commentary on how productivity platforms are running and adding value.
  • Streamline: You will find opportunities to optimize and streamline our operations, using automation, integration and AI
2. Vendor Management & Financial Stewardship (FinOps)
  • Strategic Renewals: Partner with Procurement to lead contract renewals and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with major vendors. Your goal is to extract maximum value and roadmap influence, not just pay the invoice.
  • License Optimization: Proactively monitor license usage and implement "reclamation" strategies to reduce waste. You will be responsible for keeping our budget green, forecasting future growth needs based on headcount trends and building strategies to rationalize our software footprint
3. Process Engineering & Governance
  • Workflow Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in how we support users (e.g., access requests, new project provisioning) and assign Engineers to automate them.
  • Compliance Enforcement: Ensure our platforms adhere to Cybersecurity and Governance policies. You will run the audits that prove we are secure.
  • Change Control: Ensure that our team is following Change Management best practices - updates to workflows or settings are tested, communicated, and safe before they hit production.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years in IT Operations, Service Delivery, or Systems Engineering, with specific experience managing SaaS ecosystems (Google Workspace, Atlassian, Slack, or similar).
  • The "FinOps" Mindset: Demonstrated experience overseeing large software budgets, optimizing license counts.
  • Incident Management: Proven experience acting as an incident commander.
  • Data-Driven: You don't guess; you use data. You are comfortable building dashboards to prove team performance and utilization trends.
  • Communication: You can de-escalate, provide updates during outages and explain complex technical issues to stakeholders.
  • Innovation: You can look at the current state to identify areas for innovation and be able to execute on such opportunities independently with your team
Additional skills
  • Experience with ITIL frameworks
  • Experience rolling out and managing AI and/or productivity tools
  • Experience or background in Project Management or Business Analysis
