A day in the life
Start your day with a floor walk, checking critical assets and reviewing overnight logs. Youโll align the team on the dayโs Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), slot in reactive work, and coordinate with vendors to minimize downtime. Midday may include a root-cause analysis on a recurring equipment fault, a quick calibration verification on a pneumatic line, and a budget review to keep spend on track. Youโll coach technicians, audit timekeeping for accuracy, and ensure every contractor on-site meets OSHA and company standards. Before you leave, youโll confirm spare parts inventory levels, sign off on completed work orders, and update action plans for continuous improvement.
Role purpose
- Lead a proactive and reactive maintenance function for all plant equipment and facilities infrastructure.
- Plan, schedule, and complete maintenance work on time with minimal production impact.
- Boost operational effectiveness, implement improvement plans, and champion the health, safety, and wellbeing of the maintenance team.
- Standardize technical best practices, policies, and procedures across the department.
- Drive continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principles through training, refined work practices, and process enhancements.
What youโll own Strategy and leadership
- Shape and deploy best practices aligned to company vision, strategies, and policies; contribute to site-wide goals and initiatives.
- Schedule, train, supervise, and motivate maintenance staff; coordinate external vendors; validate repair timelines and costs.
- Prioritize repairs and parts usage; manage, control, and monitor MRO inventory.
Execution and reliability
- Delegate shift priorities effectively and monitor periodic checks to sustain efficiency.
- Own the PPM programโplan, execute, and continuously improve to maximize planned downtime and reduce unplanned stoppages.
- Optimize equipment performance and product quality; ensure routine calibration and maintenance of electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Establish spending accountability and a strategy to manage maintenance materials and costs.
- Maintain robust systems and equipment data storage with high standards of accuracy.
- Lead seamless introductions of new machinery to prevent unnecessary downtime.
- Assess equipment for efficiency, identifying assets to replace or upgrade to sustain reliability.
- Oversee safe, lawful disposal of obsolete machinery and plant equipment.
- Conduct root cause analysis and resolve problems to prevent recurrence.
- Surface and implement business improvement opportunities across the organization.
- Provide technical guidance; secure the right skills, resources, and external partners to complete projects.
- Perform risk assessments on departmental processes and tasks.
- Manage on-site subcontractors to OSHA and company requirements; ensure a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
People leadership
- Coach, counsel, and develop a high-performing team; set realistic goals and deliver actionable feedback.
- Model high standards and clarify expectations for every team member.
- Manage staffing levels to meet operational requirements; motivate and guide the team to success.
- Verify task completion quality; ensure accurate records within appropriate systems.
- Review, edit, and audit the timekeeping system to ensure proper compensation for work performed.
Financial stewardship
- Operate within the maintenance budget; solicit competitive bids to select the right vendors.
- Hold the team accountable to budget targets and prepare the annual maintenance budget from inception to completion.
Cross-functional partnership
- Collaborate with the Management team to share ideas, recommend solutions, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive process and procedure improvements to optimize results, elevate quality, and meet customer requirements.
- Build strong relationships with internal departments, customers, suppliers, and service providers.
- Recommend cost-optimized solutions without sacrificing quality or service.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of related maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional presence with the ability to interface effectively across all levels of the company.
- Strong interpersonal skills with discretion for sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Certificates/Licenses: No certifications needed.

Work environment
- Regular exposure to wet or humid (non-weather) conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, variable temperatures, and extreme heat (non-weather).
- Occasional work at heights, with toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock.
