Job description

Purpose

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing key accounting functions, including preparing month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial analysis, and reporting. This role requires accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to tight deadlines while supporting general ledger maintenance and year-end audit preparation. The Staff Accountant must have a fundamental understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), demonstrate strong organizational skills, and work independently while following through on assigned tasks under the guidance of a manager.

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks

Performance must reflect appropriate level of expertise and achievement of the desired results for the items listed below.   

  1. Essential Functions
    1. Maintain and distribute monthly close calendar.
    2. Prepare record standard monthly journal entries as assigned.
    3. Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
    4. Maintain subledger details for assigned accounts.
    5. Research account variances and coordinate with Senior Accountants to resolve discrepancies.
    6. Prepare and record top-side elimination entries and adjustments as needed.
    7. Prepare internal/external reporting as required monthly.
    8. Prepare and maintain monthly account reconciliations as assigned.
    9. Prepare various account roll forwards and supporting schedules.
    10. Perform procedures related to physical inventory counts as assigned.
    11. Prepare required governmental surveys as necessary.
    12. Assist with special projects as assigned.

        1. Previous project management assignments
        2. Ability to work in fast paced and changing environments
        3. Knowledge of sales, accounting, credit and collections, financial statement analysis, banking and finance
        4. Microsoft Office, emphasis in Excel and Word
        5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
        6. Strong people skills

Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience / Certifications

  1. Education:
    1. Bachelors degree in Accounting, or Finance required
    2. Equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree
  2. Experience:
  1. Minimum 1 year of experience working in an accounting role within a corporate environment
  2. Experience using JD Edwards and Dynamics a plus
  1. Licenses / Certifications:
    1. Valid driver’s license – required
  2. Language:
    1. Proficiency in English required
    2. Bi-Lingual – Spanish or Portuguese is a plus

  4. Ability to setup desk equipment including setting up equipment on top of desks and connecting cables and power cords under desk (requiring lifting, bending, pushing, pulling).
