What is asset finance?

Asset finance is a type of financial arrangement that enables businesses to acquire essential equipment, vehicles, or machinery without having to pay the full cost upfront. Instead, companies can spread the payments over an agreed period, preserving their cash flow and working capital. Asset finance can take various forms, including leasing, hire purchase, or equipment loans, depending on the needs of the business. This approach allows organizations to access the assets they need to grow and operate efficiently while managing their financial resources more effectively.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in asset finance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in asset finance often encounter challenges such as keeping up with rapidly changing regulatory requirements, managing complex client portfolios, and adapting to evolving financial technologies. Effective communication with clients and internal teams is crucial for ensuring clarity around financing terms and compliance. Staying updated through ongoing training and leveraging technology solutions can help streamline processes and reduce errors. Building strong relationships with stakeholders also contributes to more successful deal structuring and client satisfaction.

Job description

The Infrastructure and Real Asset Finance Group: Join a pioneering team at the forefront of financing the future. The Goldman Sachs Infrastructure and Real Asset Finance Group, established in late 2025 within our Capital Solutions Group, is a specialized unit dedicated to financing large-scale, capital-intensive projects. We are strategically positioned to capitalize on the surging demand for asset-backed financing, critical AI infrastructure, and high-grade private credit, distinct from traditional commercial real estate. Our focus encompasses vital sectors such as data centers, GPUs, utilities, and renewable energy, providing innovative alternatives to conventional bank lending. As part of the broader Global Banking & Markets division, we manage complex, private credit-driven deals, directly addressing the booming need for AI-related infrastructure and expanding Goldman Sachs' leadership in the private capital market.

Role Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Associate to join our Infrastructure and Real Asset Finance Group in Dallas. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of a newly formed, strategically important team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in portfolio management, monitoring and risk mitigation for credit transactions for a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and real asset projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive credit analysis, financial modeling, and monitoring for infrastructure and real asset financing.
  • Monitor existing portfolio performance, identify potential issues, and recommend appropriate actions to ensure sound credit management.
  • Collaborate effectively with deal teams, credit risk management and clients throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and industry developments in infrastructure, real assets, and private credit.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of credit policies, procedures, and analytical tools for the group.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, with a strong preference for project finance. Experience in credit analysis, corporate finance, or a related financial services field is a bonus.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills (Excel proficiency is essential); experience with other analytical tools is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial structures and assess credit risk effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Prior experience with infrastructure, utilities, data centers, GPUs, fiber, aviation assets or real asset financing is highly desirable.
